Was it hella interesting and was it worth the money? Is there any free ancestry tracking sites? Do you need any special info like birth certificates and shit? I'd be interested to see exactly where my heritage comes from.

Someone I know sent in some saliva to have her DNA tested. It cost some kind of money of course, but it tells you where your genes come from.
I thought that was pretty cool. I'd be interested to see what mine came out to be. I have a small amount of native american, but there are rumors my family might have a tad of the negro, wonder how true it is.

Crystal G used one of those sites where you send in spit for analysis. She paid like 150$ to be told that she's eastern Asian.

I've always wanted to. Our family has an interesting background. I have a general idea with my mom's side. They came here around the second world war from the Ukraine. My great (great?) grandfather had some old diaries/documents around when he died and the general consensus is that we was SS and defected to Canada.
My dad's side is a little different. My great great grandfather was adopted by an English family, but he was however very Scottish/Norwegian. He married a blackfoot lady and that's about as much as anyone knows. My great great grandfather didn't know much so obviously his kids knew even less, and they're all dead. Not much point in tracking your ancestry further than that but it would be cool to know none the less. I'm probably Merovingian obviously.

Jesus Christ can suck my cock.
No, my family knew much of our own history already, and we just went from that to research on the internet, family lines, names, dates, times....
You can do the research that Ancestry.com does for you, although expect to spend a shit ton of time doing so.

I've tried ancestry.com's family tree creator and it wasn't very useful to me personally. I'd like to try the DNA analysis though as I imagine it would be interesting to know all of the facets of what make me "me."

There is some resources here:
http://www.archives.gov/research/genealogy/
I'm not sure if Canadee is included tho. I think the first step is usually to compile everything you do know, and then from there you will have a clearer idea of some possible leads. Like if you can go back 2 or three generations and you know how and where they were employed you could check census records and such, which might give you new information to go on.

My dad used it, I don't remember how much he paid but he was satisfied because he is into that kind of bullshit and he is really prideful of his ethnicity because he kind of has a backwards mentality which is typical of Eastern European people like him

I tried it but didn't get anywhere. My family's from the Balkans, so lots of records were lost during WWII. Our family name changed around that time too by one letter. I Googled my last name and found it means follower of Demeter. It made a lot of sense because everyone in my family was a farmer until my parents came to America.
I understand how incredibly fortunate I am to be able to draw a straight line back through millennia.

I have a feeling she sends in spit for analysis quite often.

That's such a stereotype of Eastern Europeans. Not surprising that you hold such views considering your heritage.
