Here ya go.
I have a new one coming. The vendor was extremely nice and understanding. They knocked off the shipping on the new one.

I don't understand why it shattered the way it did. The threads were clean, and the valve was not cross-threaded upon insertion (by hand). I put the 8" adjustable wrench on it, got about 1/2 turn and it seemed to suddenly seize, then BAM...four pieces!

Damn dude. You can kinda see what happened. The metal that makes the vent ports couldn't handle the torque and twisted and failed. Kinda a design fault if you ask me, since the only spot to wrench on is above that area, so all the torque gets transmitted through that thinner metal.
Is your PC fairly new or an older model? Was the stock vent pipe corroded at all? If it's an old PC, before you install the new one I'd go over the threading in the lid, maybe even get a tap to clean em up before trying to install the new one.
Hopefully you have better luck with the next one!

Exactly right. The fitting for the wrench is improperly positioned the way it is designed and relies in three flimsy posts to transmit the torque.

I would imagine you can get taps at just about any hardware store. I would check the local hardware stores first. Automotive stores may have them as well.
You may be able to fix the grip surface of the vent pipe with a file enough to use the socket wrench.

The tap should be available at a real hardware store or plumbing store. Since plumbing is truly whavu are dealing with with that thread. Sorry you are down a pc. I feel responsible. I would try to screw the vent pipe back in again.
Nb, wow. We believe you now. Are you sure you didn't drop that thing in liquid nitrogen first? Can't believe it broke. Looks like there are teeth marks on it though. From a pair of pliers or vise grips

After it broke, I had to use a pair of (toothed) pliers on the remnant of the threaded portion to back it out of the AA PC. That's what created the marks.
Blindingleaf: Take the pressure valve with you when you go to the hardware store. Have the sales rep match up the threads with the tap to be sure you purchase the correct item!

Those newer stopcock look like shit, compared to the older ones. My 915, that I've had for 20 years, came with guage and 'cock. I'm ready to upgrade my 941, as I'm tired of laying a folded towel over the weight, to achieve 20psi. But, I sure wish I could buy an older stopcock, as the quality, easily seen from the pictures, has gone far downhill...

It is a genuine aa stopcock. The new design holds higher psi and vents the steam back down towards the pc. They are good quality. Made in the usa.

I was told it is an AA manufactured part by the vendor. I have no reason to doubt it, although I think the design could have been better and the materials sturdier.
Going to install the new one very gingerly when it arrives and hope I can get enough threads engaged to be steam-tight and (more importantly) confident it won't blow off. Gonna put some cutting oil on a tap and make sure the treads run clean and clear. My PC has been very lightly used and is clean and in great condition, so I don't think running a tap is going to improve things much, but at least I'll know I did everything possible. I had NO trouble whatsoever re-installing the original part all the way in, so I know the threads are pretty darned clean.

I don't get why the original stopcock would be able to screw in with no issue but the new one does not. The new one is supposed to be a direct replacement for the old stopcock isn't it? Did AA fuckup and maybe the thread pitch is fucked up on some of the new ones?

thats what i think dude. cause my old exhaust screws right back in. i thought it was because mine is very old, it was dirty, but if NB's was both new, and relatively unused, and he had a problem, maybe some weird manufacturing flaw happened with the threads. i really hope the tap will work.

If the thread pitch is the issue then getting a tap to match the stopcock and running it through your AA threads should solve the problem. But, then going back to the stock vent pipe may be an issue.

Yes. There's stuff called machining/thread cutting oil. However if your old exhaust screws back in I wouldn't make modifications to your lid. I would contact the vendor that sold you the stopcock and tell him it doesn't fit.

According to Mike at out-grow, they changed some things on all models after 2009. If your PC is older it could be they sent you the wrong part. I'm not sure about this though.
