cool.  I'm waiting for a neighbor to come home to use his wrench.
hmmm…so i think i misunderstood.
when i unscrew this, I'm using the bolt via socket/cresent wrench, but, is the threading underneath of that coming out as well, and then i screw the stop cock in?  i dunno why, i thought that threading stuck out and stayed, but i guess that doesn't make sense now that i look at the stop cock.

Yeah the female threads are tapped into the lid and the stopcock has male threads that go into the lid. Then the capillary tube screws into the bottom of the stopcock and you have to attach it first. If you're not using a tube just screw the stopcock into the lid.

The stopcock does not protrude into the chamber to screw the air exhaust tube onto it. The stopcock only goes like 3 threads into the lid. I believe the tube screws into the lid on the same port to connect the two.

ok, i used vice grip, got it off.  but…so are u guys SURE this is safe??  it really seems like it won't screw in well, almost looks like its at an angle when its screwed in, not sure I'm doing this right.

edit: this isn't gonna work.  it won't screw in i think b/c the threads are so old and dry.  i can't get it to screw in straight
gonna try it on the smaller 915.  thats newer, but i don't need the stopcock for that one :frown:

edit2: vice grips strip the bolt for anyone trying this is the future.  use the tape like eno suggested.

still no luck.  won't screw in.  the threads aren't catching arghhhhh:oldman2:

when i try to screw the old one back in, its fine.

That's odd man.  I have the very old 915 and although tightly, the new vent did screw in just fine.  Used vice grips both removing and installing since I didn't have a crescent wrench for it.  I just locked it in on the same part the wrench goes on, turned it.. unlocked it, repositioned it, locked it turned it..well you get the idea.  SLow going but it worked fine.  The vent should fit in yours as well.

Also the "base" of the vent..that is above the threads that screw into the lid, doesn't go all the way down to the base of the lid.  Atleast it isn't on mine.  It sits above the lid.  All that has to happen is to have a good seal through the threading hole. A few turns will do it and the bottom of the threads on the vent does not come through the other side of the lid all.  It's probably sitting halfway through the hole of the lid.

Hey blinding leaf. Get an 1/8th inch ipt or npt tap. It's iron pipe thread or national pipe thread. It will clean up the threads and recut them.

When I installed the stopcocks on my late model 921 & 930 lids At first I thought I may need an adapter to get the stopcocks to fit, it was a much tighter fit than the stock vent pipe. I had to clear out some old teflon tape from the threads. Your threads probably need some lovin.

wow, thanks for the help guys!
just had my neighbor look at it.  he knows a metal shop where they can fuck with the threads for a good fit worst comes to worst.  i don't wanna buy a new PC, and this is the size i use the most. was thinking WD-40 might help is anything built in the female threads over time?

tahoe, is that going to strip the current threads, or is it like a softer brush effect?

J, i thought about adaptor, muda mentioned that.  it does seem to big TBH.  whats weird is i can catch a few turns, but its always diagonal, and then it stays put but as soon as i touch it, it falls.  so it does fit, but i can't seem to catch the threads correctly so its straight up and down :stars:

if i could get the valve off the 915, and the stop cock fits, then ill know its just a matter of the 921 being old/warped/whatever.  but even with vice grips i can't get it off.  cannot find 7/16 wrench either, just got 8 and 9 mm

will bike to store later this week.  had to start cooking grains, so just using the weight today.  i can't wait to do this.  the 921 weight is fucked.  looses so much water thru cycle, even after i soaked the pieces in vinegar/h2o2.  so maybe the threading itself is actually messed up and lets steam thru??  i've burned about 7 bags in the past 3 weeks because of this

its only the 921 that does that, but the pc bottom is a waste land of plastic and grain

So check it out. The stopcock screws into the exhaust tube, and then the tube screws into the lid.

Leaf if yours are like mine, then you'll need to get the tube to complete the upgrade.

Ahh, thanks for that pic. I've always wondered what the adapter looking thing was that the stopcock is screwed into before the the lid on alot of pictures. I always thought that was some kind of adapter, not part of the vent tube. I never knew it was actually part of the tube. I stand corrected.

Since the stopcock only threads a few turns into the lid threads without the exhaust tube I figured the exhaust tube would just connect under the lid.

Are the threads on the exhaust tube slightly larger than the stopcock? If you remove your stopcock from the exhaust tube, can you screw the stopcock into the lid with no issues?

I'll need another crescent wrench to take them apart and see. Maybe I can find something else. If I can take it all apart I'll post a pic.

Alright check this out. The exhaust tube screws into the lid, and the toggle valve into the exhaust tube, but on mine the stopcock screws straight into the lid with no problem. Now I'm really confused.

Hey numero. The thread on the valve and the thread on the tube is the same size,  1/8th npt (pipe thread)
One does not need the tube to do the upgrade.

Leaf. I should have include a machining tap, the thread maker, in the original post. I had to use one on my pc to clean out and recut the threads. It's basically a really sharp screw. YouTube tapping threads and watch how it's done.
My vent that I removed was all corroded and it tore up the threads on the way out. I couldn't get the valve to go in straight either. Exact same problem you are having.

Home depot or better yet a auto parts store will have the tap. Harbor freight has a set but it's expensive. Wait a few days and get a tap.

Watch "Using Taps and Dies" on YouTube

Yeah I realized that when I threaded the stopcock straight into the lid. I agree strongly with the tap idea. One in the right size can most likely be sourced cheaply and easily online.

Blinding leaf. Yeah either one will work. I think I would use the second link ebay item 141257637107

Nature boy? You got to be shitting. How did it break?  Pics!  Or did it unscrew and fall apart? There should be a pin press Mark on the side which is there to keep the valve from coming apart. It's well worth it to buy another and go without the psi weight. You will use less water. Your substrate will absorb less moisture during cooking and be less prone to screw up moisture content.

Woah! Pics plz. Mine have felt very sturdy and they were jostled around quite a bit before I installed them. I'm sure you will get a replacement without much hassle if you show the vendor pics of what happened.
