I've been out of the cultivating loop for 6 years now and am looking to buy a new PC. Is it worth the few extra dollars to just get a 1925x sterilizer or should I get 925 or 930 series canner and make the mods?
And as far as I have read the advantage to the sterilizer is no worries about water for longer cooks?
Thanks guys, much appreciation

So I've had these parts for a couple months now. Finally just said fuck it and installed it. About to do my first run! Fucking stoked and nervous. I tightened it down until it was real hard, it made a little pop sound so I stopped.

Hopefully there's somebody that can answer some of my questions while I do this D:
Is it ever supposed to vent steam? It's at about 5psi and I can flip the toggle up and down and nothing happens. It's just silently building pressure, how am I supposed to run the steam out of it to ensure even heating?

It should vent steam with the toggle open or up.
For real don't build a bomb bro

I would turn it off now and figure out why it's not venting. I mean you could run it that way as long as you trust your blow out plug but don't walk away from it lol

Turns out I was just being a bitch about it, I can lift it up and give it a bit of pressure and it vents out really hard, that still doesn't seem normal.

Dunno my 941 is still a pc and I don't fuck with it since I can run it @ 20psi with little to no jiggle and it holds a vacuum. Pretty much already a sterilizer lol.
I would wait on someone that's done it or knows the toggle

Yo r3dz have the metal thing stand strait up to vent. After the regular 10 minute vent flip the metal thingy to horizontal position to build pressure
Even when it's back to zero it will hold a vacuum so to release the pressure slowly lift the metal thing up from the horizontal position over a minute
-------------------- But if you're in a hurry, and really got to go If you're in a hurry, might have to find out slow That it's one thing to try and another to fly You get there quicker just a step at a time It's one thing to bark, another to bite The show ain't over till you pack up at night

Turns out it's broken, the lever was always loose, flopped up and down. I could hold it up to vent pressure in the beginning, and I still think it would release at the normal 26psi but I don't really want to risk it. I got mine from OutGrow, I contacted Mike so I'll probably hear from him tomorrow.

Pussy. Just stand by it and hand vent it like we use to have to in the olden days. We would walk uphill both ways to our mushroom patch through the snow.
When we got there we would have to do 13.7hrs of hard labor and walk uphill back home in the snow barefoot to turn on and hand vent our PC's while waiting on the horse to crap out enough for a tub.

So guys! I figured out, it turns out I'm just a retard. Out-Grows control valve will totally work, if you flip it 100% vertically so the valve is standing straight up it will hold itself open to vent the steam in the beginning.

so yeah I'm just a dumbass. I didn't realize that it went straight up vertically, I thought that the lever was fixed and that pointing it upward (not necessarily straight up) opened it, and then having it in the normal down position was closed. Write it off as me being a fool.

I'm in the process of upgrading my ancient All American pressure canner. This thing doesn't even have a model number on it. Weird. Only identifiers are 21 1/2 cast into the bottom, and "J41" stamped into the bottom below where the metal ring hangs off.
I've run into a problem. I've replaced the stopcock and pressure guage, but the blow plug is a metal kind. Not a rubber kind. I read somewhere that it would be possible to drill that hole to be larger in order to upgrade to over pressure plugs. Anyone have any idea how wide of a drill bit I should use for that? Also, how tall that hole is? I've for a drill press I can use to do it, but I need the measurements.
