So I ran my 921 yesterday to sterilize some contaminated jars before dumping them out. The 921 has a valve obtained from AAC. While it was heating up I went outside to tend to my outdoor projects. When I came back in the pressure was around 26psi. I do not know exactly how high it was as I didn't get good look at the gauge in time. But the valve was hissing and leaking a bit of steam a bit before it blew open. It blew open, but to my surprise it closed before I could even think about trying to tap the valve with a wooden spoon. When it closed the gauge was at 25psi. I think it blew open at a little over 26psi. It may have even blown off a couple times before I came back inside the house. LoL
The valves from AAC deffinatley operates a little different than the one I got from EM.
So, Valves from AAC with the smaller lettering hiss and release a bit of steam before blowing open at ~26psi and auto closes at 25psi after blowing off the excess pressure. The valve from EM with the bigger lettering makes NO hissing to warn of the impending blow off before popping off at ~28psi. I do not know what psi my valve from EM automatically reseals at because I have tapped the valve right away to close it again the only times it's happened. At some point I will test that valve again to see what pressure it does reseal at.
Interesting stuff...

Rather than spread competitor spores out doors and get some on my clothes, I opt to kill them first.
No smell. Especially not with the valve. I sterilize bags of manure and it doesn't smell up the house.

Does anyone know what type of over pressure relief valve I can use on a 925 lid? I ruined the metal one (long stupid story) I have the red plug but that isn't going to fit. Do I need the black one?

The black and red rubber plugs are interchangeable. The black will not fit if the red one will not fit. Everything mushroom will have them back in stock soon.
You could also make a temporary plug. Go to home depot or Lowe's and get an 1/8th inch iron pipe thread plug. Or go to the air compressor section and get one of the 1/8th inch pressure gauge.

AAC has the Excess Pressure Relief Valve. http://www.allamericancanner.com/allamericansterilizerparts.htm
Looks like they have a deflector shield on them like the new stopcocks.

weird..the one time I PC'd mold my PC was gnarly smelling for months.
They were really contaminated jars though. I was lazy about cleaning back then.

No, they ARE interchangeable. Here is a red plug in my 921. It used to have a black plug in it.

Now the plugs will not fit in the threaded holes. The holes meant for the pressure gauge and the jiggle weight. Use a plug like this if you need to fill the hole until the new valve shows up. You must keep an eye on your pc if you use the plug. Your only safety is the blow out plug and the pressure gauge.

Wait a minute midnight. How old is your pc? Does it have valves that look like this? If yes, then you don't use a rubber plug at all.

Om another note. I just concluded a 90 minute run at 23psi. When I opened the cooker two of the large sized plastic lids had popped off. any idea why?

Yes, they have an updated part now. It's part 2050cs. Use that link from juice above. Or you can use the brass plug that I posted. Now you will only have the other valve as a safety. I can think of other less expensive ways Fix/ bypass it if interested.

Midnight. Does your lid have a working gauge and pressure release valve? Aa pc/sterilizers have at least one safeguard. It's either a rubber blow out plug or the metal over pressure relief valve. Not to be confused with the control valve used in this tech. You can unscrew your damaged valve and run two of the pressure CONTROL valves, that would be very safe. You could get a second psi gauge if you wanted to be fancy. Or you could just plug the hole with a 1/8th pipe thread plug. But some might feel that doing so isn't safe.
You could run something like this. It releases at 125psi. But it would do the trick. http://pages.ebay.com/link/?nav=item.view&id=291330021200&alt=web Basically, it does not HAVE to be the aa part. There are plenty of temp fixes if you need that thing running today.

^^^^ Yow. I just had a similar experience. Was using my converted PC and was in my home office a couple of rooms away from the kitchen paying bills. Luckily it was 6:00am and pin-drop quiet in my house. Heard an unusually sharp "tick" from the PC and went to investigate. The pressure must've slowly creeped up and I found the needle pegged almost as high as shown above. I shut the heat and fled back into my office to await the outcome.
Nothing happened, but DAMN...you need to be far more vigilant with this setup than with the rocker.

Between the two sigs this page is pretty much entirely full of pressure gauges.

Nb, welcome to the 23psi+ club. I do notice that the pc is much more efficient with this setup. No real warning of its getting too hot with out the hissing of the jiggler

Not an award I was looking forward to getting, but yeah, I met the criteria!
I love the no hissing no jiggling part, but the notion of leaving the PC unattended for more time than it takes to shave, (check) fold some laundry, (check) pay some bills, (check) vacuum a room, (check) or drink a cup of coffee is now out of the question. But...those are all things that need doing on a Saturday morning and can collectively take up 2 hours of my time at home, so, no big deal, I guess.
