Hi there.....pretty much 100% sure that these are lobster mushrooms, but never looked for them before. I was just driving down my road and they were on the side of it. Any advice is mush appreciated:smile:

As long as they are still firm and not full of worm holes and larva they are probably okay to eat, they smell funky even when fresh. Which state did you find these in and what elevation?

How can one be sure it doesn't parasitize a poisonous mushroom?

I've seen one on piperatus, but I didn't get to eat it. They are pretty rarely found on Lactarius. It can be a host without being parasitized

I actually live in northern ontario, canada. It is 450 m above sea level......just curious as to why that matters?

Just wondering why they are asking, i.e. more abundant at a higher elevation, just for my own personal knowledge.

I was asking to see if you were finding them near me so I could go look for them... I asked about elevation because it pertains to what the temperatures have been.
