This post is about serious meditation techniques and only those who have prior knowledge and at least a basic understanding of these not just those seeking for truth although hopefully this can be a perfect place for those people to pick up on knowledge.
So basically each person should inquire what techniques they use and the benefits of them and ways it affects body/mind/subtle energies and what results/ benefits/risks and to what degree.
This thread should consist of mostly variations on older techniques and efforts of the will being used for unique cases and situations and experiences of this to help each other understand and apply more techniques .
After all practical work is a great means to an end.
Looking forward to hearing from all of you !

I've studied and practiced mediation in one form or another pretty much every day for the last 20 years. When it's all said and done, meditation's main goal is to slow down thinking and eventually STOP it so that a new band of information or perception becomes visible and experience-able. The incessant thinking mind blocks a deeper level of insight and realization. So, the question is how best to get to that place where the mind quiets and meditation becomes pleasure instead of torture.
Personally, I think 20-30 minutes of "moving meditation" first either with qi gong (I consider the best) or Yoga or others has a much greater impact than just abruptly sitting and meditating. It helps to connect the mind with the breathing and this, to me, is absolutely key. When you can get your mind to focus much more on following breath and much less on following thought then you are off and running. Qi Gong is a huge help with this.
I also think there are excellent things to listen to that help meditation. Some of the semi-synch recordings from the Monroe institute and tibetan priests chanting "OM" I have found to have a huge accelerating impact on slowing down and stopping random thinking.
It is critical for the body to not be in pain when sitting. You can get as good of results (better?) sitting in a chair as sitting cross legged or in the lotus position. Pain is a major distraction and does not help the meditation process at all. Equally, laying on your back in a sleep like position is unlikely to produce results either as it's way too easy to drift off to sleep. So, my practice has taught me that qi gong + comfortable sitting with back straight + helpful sound and intense focus on breathing is the key that unlocks the real doors to the benefits of meditation.

Immortality is the ability to retain full memory through all consciousness transformations. Loss of memory is man's greatest curse and, in very real terms, death." -- Ancient Taoist Master

Yeah, I just focus on my breath, try to relax, draw in slowly and exhale slowly. Try to listen to yourself breathing, redirect attention from thoughts to your breath and thus integrate the mind into your breathing. Basically though, just try to empty yr head, and if you do have something you need to think about, don't stay with it any longer than you feel you have to.

It's true that serious pain will make meditation very difficult, but some back pain is alright, your body will definitely adapt to it.
But yeah that's why doing yoga first can make meditation really awesome.

Have had a number of out of body experiences and lucid dreams which are similar, but different. In a lucid dream you just wake up in a dream and remain in the dream fully awake and know you're dreaming, look around and kinda just go from there with minimal control, at first, of the scene and situation. An OOBE, at least for me, happens without falling asleep and I feel myself leaving my body and starting the journey from there. First few times was very frightening as I felt I was dying ... but after maybe a dozen of them, started to relax and enjoy it. Experience is energizing, like tapping into a powerful new energy. It's a rush, to put it mildly. It takes practice and concentration to cultivate it as it's very easy to allow it to slip into a place where it's hard to recall upon "waking."
Robert Monroe's books are a fantastic account of the entire experience by a guy that had thousands of OOBE's. Well worth the read.
