Salvia - White Flies

I have white flies hanging around my two salvia cuttings. I have heard bad things about pyretine (sp?), and I was wondering if there was an organic solution to my problem.
Thanks.

Fire - and lots of it!
Although that is a little drastic. First, try a hot pepper spray. There are instructions here somewhere...

you can buy these anti-insect things you put in the soil and after a while they just disappear.
Whitefly really sucks I had them on my salvia's too and first there are just a few but after a while it's a real plague.

Diatomaceous earth on the top of the soil helps. Also you could buy commercial soap spray in addition to the Diatomaceous earth in the soil or you could make it. Search is back up, do a search for some home made pesticide sprays using dish soap, nicotine, hot peppers etc...

I've noticed that they seem to congregate in two particular plants either side of the pots that have a yellowed/mottled appearance. The reason I bring this up is because I have read somewhere that there are commercially available traps that are more or less just a sticky yellow pad. Do you think that the relative proximity of my plants to these yellow ones could be the cause, or are white flies naturally attracted to salvia?
Thanks for the responses, I'll look further into it.

I don't think white flies will be attracted to Salvia specifically, but they will be attracted to plants that they can suck sap from easily. And salvia, being quite a soft plant (ie, not very woody, no thick waxy coating on leaves etc), is easy to suck sap from. That is why the little bastards like it, IMHO. Having said that, the yellow ones may not be helping...
Lol, last night I actually dreamt I had white flies on my Salvias, I'd forgotten until I saw this topic!

White fly are bad. I use neem oil to get rid of them it works ok. I also have a chemical syrup that is mixed with water and sprayed to much and it burns the leaf also i wont harvest up to 3 weeks after i sprayed.
Use some sticky traps or bugs that eat white fly. I wanted to order some lady bugs like 100 but the company said min of 1000 for 18 bucks the price is good i dont need that many.

I know suby already put his recipe for the pepper spray on here but I thought I'd give you a link to a thread discussing it a while back since I had it bookmarked...

Thanks for the link Hooty, I think I might do a combination of the two and see how that goes.
