When we criticize the government, we ought to be careful to distinguish in our minds between the small minority of elected officials who hold political office and make most of the executive decisions, and the greater majority of hundreds of thousands of middle class professionals who are enabling the country to run. Government is clearly necessary, and despite the idealisms of the republicans and libertarians, there is a minimum size it needs to be, and in the modern world this is rather large.
The great irony is that the right, who are the first to decry government and regulation, are the very first to come to the government in times of trouble to ask for help. And we certainly can't have smaller government if everybody wants to keep passing laws!
What are your opinions of government? What role does it play in your life and in your mind, and how do you feel about it in general?

All Governments conspire. As long as people interact, there will be conspiracy. Therefore there will always be Government.

Point taken. I agree with you to a point, but I would alter the terminology. "Conspiracy" conjures a room full of men stroking cats talking about how they will dominate the world, and implementing nefarious, dastardly plans to do it. I don't think things are quite that way. I would prefer to say that there are common interests that the people at the top would like, as much as possible, to preserve and allow to flourish. What tools they have through government are used to foster the status quo as much as possible, i.e. to make as much money for themselves as they can.
As long as money keeps flowing upward, they don't even really have to do much.

For the U.S. Republic which I live in, it demonstrates effectively the public's interests and constituents. It has done so successfully with the elite ruling class in government establishing political stablility.
My opinion of the 99% movement ties in with government regulation on intervening in capitalism. The fault of the 99% was it were poorly organized in leadership to create plausible change for government to instill regulations on a market favoring the 1%.The government's federal bank used taxes in order to bail out a recessive market system so then bank ceos were forcibly bailed with CEO's walking out of courts with wallets and property intact. This concerns me about the future of the middle class gap between rich and poor widening.

You serious, Myles? Would you like to expand on how anarchy is better? Or how modern civilization could possibly do without government?
Love to hear it.
