Scletoria grow! Advice needed around black mold(?)
    #22134704 - 08/24/15 09:41 AM (8 years, 5 months ago)

Hi

A quick intro, I'm growing cube's for at least 5 years now with rye berries en WBS.. The shroomery has helped me with everything from the very start. Learning from my errors.

I now started with a scletoria grow, after reading "A Comprehensive Sclerotia Cultivation Guide" & "Easier Than Cubes!!!" posts.

I started with ATL#7, -sporeprint from Sporeworks-, on agar plates, with mostly jar's, in total 20kg of (dry) rye, which now are going in there fourth month.

The jars are all good, fully colonized, and no contams.
But because i still had filter bags, i started to do 3-5kg spawn bags, with grain transfer from ATL#7 jars.

NOW, some of the bags are totaly fine, but two have some black regions in the fully colonized bags.. In the contam summary post, there is indicated that black mold should be trown away.

I tought, oh well, i'll just keep them on the shelve and see what happens.. now the thing is,after 2-3 weeks, the black mold is getting overgrown by the white mycelium.

I tried the search engine to find something about it, concerning black mold in scletoria bag/jar. But can't find anything scletoria related, only with PF-jars or cube's.

Is it safe to let the bags grow for a couple o' months, and harvest the scletoria, without getting sick of what could possible be black mold before ? If the black spots get overgrown with mycelium.

I include picture to show the black regions, so maybe someone experienced in this matter can give me some info. The red outlining is where the black matter was a couple weeks ago, to see if it grew any larger, or not.

maybe it's not even black mold?

Thank you in advance!!

I wouldn't eat sclerotia from a substrate contaminated with black mold man.. mushrooms definitely! But sclerotia formed in the black mold areas are definitely not good.
