What do you think of Burning Man as a whole?

Would you ever go? Or known someone that has?

I went last year. Wish I was going again this year but I am not. Next year though. I will make my return.

I'd go under these following conditions: A HUGE RV camper complete with all the luxuries (shower, fridge, batteries, wifi, etc), enough friends to have someone at the camper at least most times, a really nice bike, 2 grand for emergency money, and tons of time to relax afterwards. Otherwise that experience just doesn't look appealing to me anymore. I prolly would have done it with just the shirt on my back when I was 21, but at 31 that's not what I'm about anymore. I like being home with my wife and cats.

Burning Man seems really fucking awesome. I was just in Nevada last week and wish I would have not gone until around next week or so when burning man was happening, that is of course if I had a ticket.

I think BM is really sweet, I'm really hoping on going with my girlfriend or my friends there in maybe 2 years when we have enough money and more time to take such a trip like that. Definitively have to stock up on shrooms, acid, mescaline and DMT and all that. There is no way you can go to burning man and not trip while there.

There are regional burn communities. Lakesoffire.org is the great lakes regional. They do a smaller 3 day event every year in rothbury michigan under the same principles of burning man. Volunteers build a huge wooden structure (different every year) which becomes a giant bonfire on the third day. Pretty awesome and the people there are all about having  a good time.

It's gotten a little too blown up for my taste I think. I would have gone years ago (but never did). I generally prefer smaller gatherings and festivals.

Looks dusty as hell, and not a tree in sight. I gotta have my trees, or at least mountains... like talk about the most boring landscape ever.
If I go to a festival it'll be Shambhala again, and I only barely enjoyed that. Creature of comfort I guess.

yea what are bug problems supposed to mean, i'm pretty sure mosquitos need water are to thrive. any other bugs are easy to deal with with camping gear.

there are stink bugs all around where i live, they don't bother me. i've never even noticed any smell from them, couldn't even tell you what they smell like.

My mining partner drug me off of Mt White Colorado where we're digging aquamarine to go again this year. I fought it the whole way back to Oregon. I'll have fun though once it gets going. We leave to help set up camp tomorrow.

Yes we're mining aquamarine crystals on Mt White. Why is that hard to understand? I didn't want to leave our pit, but will be going back in 2 weeks.

thats about a year or more in advance. you don't wait for the tickets, you get the tickets when they are available and wait for the event.

i'm sure there are still some tickets currently available for next year, if not maybe the following (not sure when they become available)

Burning man is a lot more then what you will ever hear. Its a city. There is so much going on you won't even ever know. Its the 5th largest city on Nevada. Its a fact. Its even on google maps. Check it for yourself. Black Rock City.

Tickets cost around $400 not including a vehicle pass. Which they only sell a limited number of and you have to have one if you wanna drive threw the gates of burning man with 1 car and or trailer. Tickets are rather hard to get as well. They come around in April and you have to sign up just to buy them. Its crazy I know and even then they only sell around 35,000 to normal people like me and you. Makes it quite a challenge to get a ticket and its only going to get worse.

People have been talking about burning man for a long time. Saying that its lost its way or something but it really hasn't. Its always the same. Except there are certain types of people that you want to avoid but that goes with any type of event. And its not really a festival. Its more a culture experiment. Its hard to describe.

Bugs! yes the bugs. Every year there is always something the people of burning man snark about. Every year trust me. There is a lot of snark in the community. So much so that you kind of have to be an asshole to fit in. Feels familiar right? Lol They just do it to scare away the newbies. The bugs are gone. There was only moths out there that's all. And it was because of some rain fall that happened but its all dry so no bugs anymore.

Burning man is not cheap, nor is it always fun because yes you are out in the desert, Unless you bring an RV your are out to the elements were dust storms come from no where and yes it does rain out there as well. Winds kick up to 70mph for no reason and the people are crazy. But if your wanna of those weird people that loves watching crazy beautiful sun sets from the mountains that surround you. You'll love it. You'll meet someone you never would have in the real world and connect with them in a way you never thought possible.

Here's a picture of me from last year.

I couldn't figure out a better way to do it, so last year I built a cozy shade structure and threw it and all the supplies and the girlfriend in a van and drove from new york. Worked out fine except jesus christ who knew we grow so much corn!!!

Riding my bike on the playa at night... one of my top experiences.

Reportedly its not for everyone. :-)

The bugs have died down already; not a problem

Playa foot is a myth, although I had a giant blister on one foot my first year from not having a bicycle. Lots of people walk all week barefoot.

I'd go if I had to do no work to make it happen.

pretty much. shows how bad I wanna go. if someone said "hey we're going, I got tickets, a van, and food, give me money" I'd probably say, ok cool, give him money, and ride along.

lol so it's only really hot instead of very fuking hot.. gotcha

but I just googled burning man and I honestly thought it was like a psytrance festival with arts included

turns out it's nothing of such, it's nothing but art and "culture".. I guess if you wanna call it that. google'd images it and some of that stuff, you can't tell me those aren't some of the weirdest people on earth. Walking around in giant goat costumes and sh*t in the desert u wot m8

It's not a festival, but an experimental city and a gifting economy based on free artistic expression. Music of every kind plays a major role in the city but is not the focus.

Most burners come off extremely douche, ime.

Besides why the hell would I pay 400$ to hang out in an ugly part of the desert? I don't know I just don't jive with all the circle jerking from the people I know that go. Seems very adolescent.

You're spot on with this post. I have no wanting to go to an outdoor festival for more than a day. I've been to a few (never burning man) and the best part of the experience is when you are on your way home to your bed.

I don't even like camping for more than a day without an air mattress.

Festivals are just too expensive. I'm at the age where my disposable income needs to go to more important things. It sucks

Oh well guess you'll never really know. I'm gonna take lots of acid and meet lots of cute girls while experiencing some of the coolest interactive art megaliths in one of the most extreme desert environments on the planet. $60 per day(and night) isn't that much to pay if it was offered at the daily rate.

What do you expect if you don't go? Words can only do so much? Watch the youtube videos and you'll get a feel of snipets there, but it's a whole urban experience with everything you'd expect, oh and there are hundreds of bars across the city with free liquor till it runs dry.

Yea took me awhile to get the gist of it but I have seen vids and what not. Was just referring to the attitude of it. You seem chill and cool, didn't mean to blanket statement it just I often encounter a snobby side to it.

There's nothing like it on the planet. This will be my 3rd year. It's magical and that's a word I never use but its the most fitting. You don't even have to be on drugs. Stone sober its a completely enveloping experience that compares to nothing.

Sex/drugs/art/ sometimes you'll experience all 3 at once it's insanity clown shit chaos.

Videos and talking do it no justice. It sounds culty but you really have no idea till you go.

Drinking hard alcohol in the desert, what could possibly go wrong?

I guess it might be for some, but I have zero desire to ever go. I just don't have anything in common with those peeps

Glad to see some fellow shroomeries know about and have been to burning man and understand that awesome feeling. I hope we meet out there one day.

Playa foot is the real deal. And I have also seen people come back with some super crazy stuff on their feet. So I took the bold look over the risk.

I Drove from Florida to Nevada and back and camped on the way too burning man on top of burning man self. I am young yes in my early 20s but it's all about the experience. If you need to have a bunch of stuff to go to burning man you probably wouldn't like it. Its hot, your gonna be uncomfortable, art cars blaring techno down the street all day and night. It's a lot to deal with all at once. You really have to want to go and be there.

Like I and others have said its a Social Experiment. It's a city purely driven on a gift economy. There are so many weird and incredibly amazing things going on. From erection contests to computer programming. Its out there and its free lol. As much food and alcohol and people you want to meet. Its like no place you have ever been. Its home.

Here is a picture of the man and how big he was last year. It was the tallest year. 105' tall. While I did not take this picture, this picture is exactly how I remember it myself and why I love it and feel as if i took it myself. It's weird. (Don't know if anyone has had that with a picture before)

If Burning Man sounds sucky to you, then don't go! :-) It's plenty crowded already.

Yeah, I walked the first couple days with tevas and got cracks between my toes. Don't know if its alkalinity, dryness, or both. Some people do seem immune, but I don't think that makes it a myth.

This and the fucking heat. I was born and raised in Alaska i don't do that kind of heat very well at all. I'd rather it be -30 than 100+

Didn't read the thread, but Burning Man is the most magical experience ever... Certainly in my life to date, minus the birth of my daughter.

It's something that can't be explained via text or video. You have to be immersed in it to understand and even then, it's hard to even grasp it all.
