Hello everyone,
Shout out to all the prior Reishi tubs on here!
Here is a rundown of my recent Reishi(Ganoderma lucidum) Monotub:
- substrate is coir/verm/gypsum "pasteurized" using the frowned upoun bucket tek - 3 quarts of spawn on rye inoculated with a LC - 27 quart sterilite tub
Colonization of the the jars took 8 days, the tub was fully colonized in 7 days and I then allowed 3 days of consolidation.
Put the tub into fruiting conditions like a regular monotub, holes stuffed with polyfil,12/12 lighting. Misted and fanned approx. once a day.
01/02 Spawn

26/02 First pins 14 days after fruiting was intiated. At first the tub was solid white mycellium but after about a week of fruiting it turned this weird beige colour.

05/03

11/03 Some yellow starting to show up in the fruits..

26/03 This photo was taken with regular incandescent light.. Also note I had to remove the polyfil from one of the holes, the reishi was ready to engulf it.

08/04

11/04 Harvest time!

Fruiting was 60 days total! I think they were still growing, but had definitely slowed down.
I tried to cut them but it was much easier to just twist and pull. This cutting board is 17x14, I was happy and surprised at the size of the fruits.

Sliced up for the dehydrator, they are tough as leather! Total weight was 65 grams after drying.

Made my first tea the other night, jesus it's bitter!
A few more photos..

This is first attempt at Reishi, it was a joy to say the least! Thanks for reading, comments and questions appreciated!

I like the shape of the fruits in these monotub grows. They take the shape of ginger roots, funky!

I believe it was Lipa (a few years back) that was using GE techniques to cause shape change in Reishi. I like to start with an antler form, then allow for normal shelf formation.

Thanks for all the positive feedback!
I think for my next tub I will increase FAE and try to get some conks going.

Wow, on coir/verm too? That's amazing! Nice grow

I fan mine a couple times daily and it really has helped add a lot of mass to the fruits. I didn't quite get conks but some pretty massive weird blobs.

Yep, just coir/verm and gypsum
I fanned around once a day, I'm going to try more fanning and really loose polyfil next round.

Monotubs are awesome, for sure. I was looking for some different ideas too though, so I tried some soda bottles. Got some 2 liters going, filled about halfway with sawdust, 1/4" hole in the cap stuffed with polyfill, going to fruit these as is for antlers. Then I filled a bunch of 1L bottles completely full, going to fruit these with the caps off in the GH and go for some conks. I'm all about re-purposing waste
Edit: Oh, and then I filled a protein powder bottle with (I'm pretty sure it was bacteria contaminated spawn) and sawdust. Cut 4 little oval shaped holes in the sides and it's fruiting right out of those, hoping to get some good conks. Seems to be doing well so far, I think it ate all the bacteria.

I know this is an old thread but I will ask anyway: What was the spawn to substrate ratio for your (double plus good) reishi monotub?
