"Truth is one; the sages call it by many names." Amish Tripathi
Tarski's undefinability theorem demonstrates that no language is capable of expressing all of its own semantics; specifically you cannot define TRUTH itself. Indeed, even if you create another language in an attempt to define what truth is in the first language, you will have to make a THIRD language to define what is true in the second language. And so on..... to INFINITY.
Quote:
The undefinability theorem shows that this encoding cannot be done for semantical concepts such as truth. It shows that no sufficiently rich interpreted language can represent its own semantics. A corollary is that any metalanguage capable of expressing the semantics of some object language must have expressive power exceeding that of the object language. The metalanguage includes primitive notions, axioms, and rules absent from the object language, so that there are theorems provable in the metalanguage not provable in the object language.
What, then, determines truth? Some will say we do. But most serious thinkers will disagree, and say that we do not determine truth: we dis-cover it.

"The Tao that can be spoken is not the eternal Tao The name that can be named is not the eternal name The nameless is the origin of Heaven and Earth The named is the mother of myriad things. Thus, constantly without desire, one observes its essence Constantly with desire, one observes its manifestations These two emerge together but differ in name The unity is said to be the mystery Mystery of mysteries, the door to all wonders."
Tao Ch 1
What two emerge? Heaven and earth? Form and manifestation? How about something more modern? Let's take a look at some of the conclusions arrived at in theoretical physicist David Bohm's distinction between Implicate and Explicate Order.
"In Bohm’s conception of order, primacy is given to the undivided whole, and the implicate order inherent within the whole, rather than to parts of the whole, such as particles, quantum states, and continua. For Bohm, the whole encompasses all things, structures, abstractions, and processes, including processes that result in (relatively) stable structures as well as those that involve a metamorphosis of structures or things. In this view, parts may be entities normally regarded as physical, such as atoms or subatomic particles, but they may also be abstract entities, such as quantum states. Whatever their nature and character, according to Bohm, these parts are considered in terms of the whole, and in such terms, they constitute relatively separate and independent "sub-totalities." The implication of the view is, therefore, that NOTHING IS THEREFORE FUNDAMENTALLY SEPARATE OR INDEPENDENT."
God said to Moses, "I AM WHO I AM. This is what you are to say to the Israelites: 'I AM has sent me to you.'" Exodus 3:14
‘I tell you the truth,’ Jesus answered, ‘before Abraham was born, I AM." John 8:59
But we are still trying to arrive at the truth using words...

Truth is directly related to consistency, reproducing results, and reliability and applicability. Nothing in my opinion is ever 100% true, but some things are more true than others. Just as the practical applications for worshiping Thor died out (Thor used to be truth) The same thing will eventually happen to Jesus, Mohammed and Yaweh after 1000 or so years. Some things become untrue over time, which I think is true. There are more dead, untrue gods to people than there are true.
