What would you do for love?
    #2213281 - 01/01/04 03:52 PM (13 years, 4 months ago)

Does "love" conquer all? What would you do if you couldn't be together? Do you stop loving and go find someone new? Or do you love only that person and never fall in love again, even if you know you will never see that person again?

On that note, who is your soul mate? So many people think, when they fall in love, that they have found their soul mates. Then, they get a divorce.

What would you do for love?

I would drive exactly 283 miles.

If you love someone, it doesn't matter how far apart you are. All that matters is the other person's happiness. You can never stop loving someone if you're really in love with them. If the relationship ends, you just have to find a new way of loving them. This does not mean that you can't fall in love with someone else. Love doesn't have to be exclusive.

Good answers, ya big bunch of philosophers...

While I go look up answers to MM's questions, Shroomism - would you mind telling me what you mean by "ego conquers love"???

Is that how far you drive to your favorite restaurant, Swami? Your grandma's house? What is 283 miles away?

I'm all for "spreading" the love (I'm disease-free)...... I try not to focus it on one person

Insert an "I think" mentally in front of eveything I say that seems sketchy, because I certainly don't KNOW much. Also; feel free to yell at me.

MM: But that depends upon the kind of love you are talking about and what you mean by 'conquer'.

I'm talking about Eros love. And by 'conquer', I mean doing whatever you have to do to make it work. For instance, I am recently ending a relationship with a man who lives in Texas. I can't move from CA to TX, and he can't move from TX to CA. Doesn't appear that love 'conquers all' in our case.

I had a soulmate of a type and we divorced. That doesn't mean she isn't my soulmate. How would you define 'soulmate'?

I would use Cayce's definition, which is "tongue and groove", or the person who was created as part of you at the time of your own creation.

I read, somewhere else, that not everyone is a soul mate, just because you fall in love. Someone can simply be a "partner", rather than a soul mate, and there is nothing wrong with being in love with a partner, while you wait for your soul mate. How do you know if someone is your soul mate? Does it matter?

Nice answer, silversoul! I didn't see this there before I replied to MM, Swami, and Shroomism.

Okay, but not everyone is mature enough to "play" this way. I can be friends with my exes, but I don't think my exes could be friends with me. Why can't I get over my attachment to a person slowly? Why does it have to be instantaneous?

This would be touching on the "liar, liar" thread a bit. For instance, if I decide to start dating again, will the person whom I can't see any more in TX stop talking to me completely, out of jealousy? And if that would be the case, do I have to be honest with him and tell him I am dating again?

I know what the obvious answer is, btw. I remember Swami's posts over there, and I agree with him.

I found it!!  (Hi, lucid!)

I've been looking for this quote for some times, as I couldn't remember which play it was from, but what perfect timing!!!

Quote:

Love is merely a madness; and, I tell you, deserves as
well a dark house and a whip as madmen do: and the reason why
they are not so punished and cured is, that the lunacy is so
ordinary that the whippers are in love too.

ACT III. SCENE II. The Forest of Arden.

Interesting, I was just talking with Freak about this
song...
it's by U2, it's about terrorism and the IRA bombings...

Love is blindness
I don't want to see
Won't you wrap the night
Around me
Oh my heart
Love is blindness

In a parked car
In a crowded street
You see your love
Made complete
Thread is ripping
The knot is slipping
Love is blindness

Love is clockworks
And cold steel
Fingers too numb to feel
Squeeze the handle
Blow out the candle
Love is blindness

Love is blindness
I don't want to see
Won't you wrap the night
Around me
Oh my love
Blindness

A little death
Without mourning
No call
And no warning
Baby...a dangerous idea
That almost makes sense

Love is drowning
In a deep well
All the secrets
And no one to tell
Take the money
Honey
Blindness

Love is blindness
I don't want to see
Won't you wrap the night
Around me
Oh my love
Blindness

The real question here is: What would you do for a Klondike bar?

I would do more for a klondike bar. And lucid, that's NOT the kind of love we're talking about! (Is it??)

I've done some seriously crazy things for people i've loved. IN short, i'd do anything that would make the one i care about happy, safe, secure, and comfortable. Sadly, my last relationship was to someone who doesn't understand that it's just my caring for her that makes me aquisce to her desires, rather than her ability to manipulate me i.e. "wrap me around her finger" I see exactly what she's doing, when she's doing it, and she doesn't understand it. Sadly, she's gotten to bragging about the fact, without realizing that i hear many things.
So now i have to stop, if only to get the point thru to her, and that hurts.
So maybe it's not what would you do for love, but what wouldn't you do to one who loves you?

I'm starting to drool just thinking about it
