Probably one of the most fucked up films I have ever seen. Seriously 95% of all the situations and scenes in the movie are extremely dark and macabre. The movie is extremely well made despite how long and confusing it is but still it is really fucked up and especially for a movie about psychedelic drugs. The most difficult part of the film is you feel like Oscar is going to come back but he doesn't. The whole movie is a very disturbing and depressing out of body experience and the whole film is extremely sad and morbid.
I was planning on watching this movie while I was tripping next week thinking it would be really trippy and chill to watch because of the psychedelic visuals and the fact that the main character smokes DMT and does acid throughout the film and the film itself is about DMT, the philosophy behind the Tibetan Book of the Dead, out of body experiences, the after life, and drugs in general and I really thought it would be perfect to watch tripping but it's the opposite. This movie will put you in a bad space if you watch it while tripping. I watched it sober and it still fucked me up.
It's kind of hard watching a movie like this that deals with the topic of psychedelia while being so dark at the same time.

I made the mistake of watching it while tripping. Put me in a really bad head space that lasted for weeks afterwards. It radically changed my view on life to where it just didn't seem like it was worth living anymore. I mean why go through all we go through when we're just going to die someday anyways. Why bother.
Thankfully that cloud of gloom eventually dissipated. I know there are plenty of people who have watched it tripping and just found it boring or whatever. I wish I had been that lucky.

I watched it tripping my fucking face off. And yes, you're right, it's probably not the smartest idea (in before the drug nerds come in here to remind everyone how much of a sin it is to watch movies or television of any kind while tripping).
Some of it is absolutely incredible & mesmerizing seeing it with tripping eyes. But yeah, in that same breath the film is borderline terrifying. Not in the usual sense, but terrifying it it's own way. It's extremely dark, and it's extremely disturbing.
I guess I'm glad I had the experience of watching it tripping, but I can't say that I would recommend it.
Definitely isn't for the faint of heart.

Lol yeah same here, slip. Safe to say what remained of my trip that night -- my mind was in a pretty dark place.

That movie is just dark and depressing. It's not so much the death that really got to me, it was more the way in which it was portrayed. It made it seem very personal. I can watch serial killer or action movies and shit and they won't even bug me in the slightest. The death happens pretty early on too, but the darkness doesn't just stop there. You get to float around and see how fucked up life is for the next 2 hours. It's been awhile but I seem to remember any aspect of it that was positive or uplifting was very soon crushed under total darkness and despair.

Yeah man
The concept I found hardest to cope with was the whole philosophical part about death. The ideas and questions it brings up really fucked with my head and made me feel kind of anxious about death. I'm rarely anxious about death, the one thing that psychedelics have helped me do is rid myself of excessive fear of death, many times while I have been tripping I have felt like I was going to die or felt like I have died and I accepted it. I accepted the fact that I could either very well die that moment or that I had already died and through that I learned to not fear death as much.
This movie had such a profound impact that it undid some of the effects that psychedelics had on me regarding my view of death and instilled a new anxiety about death that previously wasn't their. Shit is pretty terrifying.

I liked it, but I think you have to be in the right kind of mindset. I was 4 days sober from pot and had taken a few benadryl to relax.
Fit my dark, pessimistic mood pretty much to a tee. I saw the director's cut so the 'pure cinema' aspect of it got tiresome after awhile but I really liked it overall.
I can't imagine watching it with another person or in a theater or something.
I'll probably rewatch again when the time is right.

The best movie for tripping is samsara imo, no words just really awesome visuals and a few disturbing ones.

It's fucked up but it's more just a REALLY shitty story and its obvious that a better way to go would be him taking dmt in the forest.

Requiem for a Dream is the only other movie I can think of that can compete with how sad, depressing, and unsettling this film is.

LOL watching movies while tripping is fucking awesome. I didn't really like Enter the Void. Too long it felt like a chore at the end I was only watching so I could say I did it. My favorite tripping movie is Holy Mountain

No doubt, Enter the Void did feel like a chore trying to actually finish it. Way too fucking long. They literally could've shaved off a full hour.
And speaking of Holy Mountain, I've heard a lot about it, and have seen it pop up on numerous trip flick lists.
I need to watch that shit.

Does anyone know if at the end of the movie when Oscar is floating in that club where all those people are having sex and in that one scene were there is 2 dudes standing in this room and one of them is getting a blow job.... is that Victor giving him a blow job?
I couldn't tell if it was Victor or not. I definitively was convinced the person sucking the dudes dick was a guy so I was like wtf is that Victor giving head??? He looked like Victor too
