nothing will change. the data that be garnered and used to make changes in society, in policies, and demands, will not be used and will be shelved. it will help advertisers, and military advisers, and that's it.

maybe they can change states of the particles with temperature since the things so fucking cold, light could just make it boil

theres like 30 states of matter that they're working with, even a single photon could fuck shit up

I was imaging checking into a doctors office and this thing running my genes, then computing the right genes and shit and giving me a blood transfusion to live a thousand years.

I spent 30 minutes yesterday looking into it so now I'm an expert, lol. It seems to revolve around the qubit which is a system in which a particle can be in 2 states at once. This is nothing new, many years ago they did experiments in which a particle or atom was fired through a diffraction grating, came out in a diffraction pattern. They put it through a splitter and half went through one side and half the other reforming into the original particle.
They figure the particle was in 2 places at once due to quantum effects. So, they use that to form a qubit in which an electron or other particle is in or may be in one of two states or possibly both. With an array of qubits they can apply an algorithm which forces the qubits to choose a state. They somehow then come up with an answer to the problem. Perhaps with another 30 miunutes of study i'll find how they do that part but mostly articles on it are full of bafflegab which could mean anything.
They have not created a working quantum computer though a qubit has been made. Some qubits are made out of super conductors. It is not certain it can even be done but the stakes are too high for any country not to research it. Hopefully obumble is allowing us to research and doesn't think its racist or whatnot.
Clearly they can't just hook qubits together like putting batteries in series. If it was that easy it would have been done long ago. Problems have come up plus the fact the algorithm must be just right. But if one of those computers could be made, in theory it could solve any problem given to it and science would advance greatly and rapidly. It would also take away our privacy and bring lots of bad things so it might be good we don't have it yet.

That's about right. However, I have my doubts about this.
>While regular computers symbolize data in bits, 1s and 0s expressed by flicking tiny switch-like transistors on or off, quantum computers use quantum bits, or qubits, that can essentially be both on and off, enabling them to carry out two or more calculations simultaneously. In principle, quantum computers could prove extraordinarily much faster than normal computers for certain problems because they can run through every possible combination at once. In fact, a quantum computer with 300 qubits could run more calculations in an instant than there are atoms in the universe.
Sounds like bullshit to me. I want an explanation of exactly what a qubit is, not vague nonsense like that. How is a qubit made, how do they know if its on or off and how do they get an output from it? Its both on and off at the same time? More calculations in an instant than there are atoms in the universe? Uh huh, and fairies make it work.
Someone is being taken for a ride here, probably the govt which is the biggest sucker around.
I know enough to know that you don't really want an answer, you just like to shit on science. If you want to know what a qubit is post in the science forum and get schooled.

I already posted what a qubit is, are you blind?
