bongwater420 said: So this monotub is on day 9 today. I used 1 at Wbs to maybe 2 at coir using the bucket tek. There is 1 pin on the right hand side that is pretty big,but that's it. It seems my tub has slowed down. Should I be worried about a contam since it didn't get to 100 percent? I've also heard coir doesn't fully colonize sometimes, any help is appreciated. url=https://files.shroomery.org/files/15-34/035144747-0823151024a.jpg] [/url]
looks not good to me

Coir does fully colonize all the time when there's nothing wrong with it. A tub stopping there is not a good sign. That looks very dry, and also too fuzzy.

Zoomable pic for anybody who can't diagnose a tub with a thumbnail image.

Thanks for making it zoomable, didn't realize it wasn't. Thanks for the quick responses. So is to dry coir the consensus? Of believe it this is my first coir tek and I figured maybe better too dry than too wet.

It should be as wet as it can get without dripping. Then when you give it a good squeeze in your fist you should get a very narrow stream of water to run down. Very narrow, mind you, the thinnest amount that still constitutes a stream. The first batch of coir you prepare should ideally be the one that you experiment with to find out what field capacity feels like. Most 650g bricks of coir take about 4qts to hydrate the brick, and then another quart for ~5 total quarts if you're adding 2 quarts of verm to the mix. For now I don't know what you can do with that, not sure if misting it will help when it's this dry. It won't finish otherwise so you're gonna have to do something. Anybody think he should try misting it real good and see what it does?

Why is part of your liner sitting on the tub surface in the top right of the pic?

It is thin too. I only had 1 qt and wanted some boomers. Patience lol. So should I spray the sub slightly and wait? Case it with verm? Or fruit ? Or fruit than submerge? Thanks guys!

I thought that was an uncolonized grain at first, but on the second look I can see that it is indeed a pin!

I have some more jars that are getting there. So I can chalk this tub up to a learning experience. Would you guys fruit then dunk? Or spray it with water a bit and wait? Or fruit and consider myself lucky

Well there's no real harm in misting it to see if the mycelium still wants to eat it. Looks like it's already fruiting though which means it's probably already given up on life.

Fruit and submerge? You are definitely not going to be able dunk that at any point. I would say that since you have given it some air, close it up for a few days before fruiting it. See if some more pins form. How are you planning on fruiting? Is it a mono?
Go ahead and give it a decent misting too.

Ya it's a mono, I'm gonna take the tape off and stuff with polyfil in a room with a fan on the other side of the room

Yeah and don't count on anything in particular. Better to be pleasantly surprised.
Also it's already dry, you don't want to get it even drier just yet.

What would you suggest I do about the dryness? Mist it?
