what clothing colors compliment a person's skin tone?
    #22130231 - 08/23/15 10:03 AM (8 years, 5 months ago)

Not sure where to ask this question but I figured it's a form of physical (appearance) well being so therefore could also be a form of mental well being. I have been curious as to what clothing should I be buying that will compliment my skin tone? I have an olive skin tone. I was told that in general dark clothing compliment my skin tone (colors dark red, purple, and greens were said to work well for me). I kinda agree with the reds and some greens. I haven't tried much purples. I always thought black looked good on me. From what I have been told that if you are pale (like some blondes), usually bright colors will work best (yellow, pink, orange, etc.). Blondes always looked cute on pink and yellow and white. I'm just trying to figure out so this way I don't spend my money on useless clothing that would look like shit on me. I liked the graphic on a yellow t-shirt but looking at it now with me wearing it in the picture, it does look like shit on me compared to black or red.

I would assume that if I stick with buying my clothes in different variations of reds, purples, and greens I should look great any day? I noticed some purples look like plum or grape and some look as light as lavender? I would assume violet is a variation of the color purple?

Tried green?

I may agree about the white, which is odd because I also was said to look good in white. I was told anyone with olive skin won't look good in bright colors (yellow, pink, orange, etc.). Not sure if white would be considered "bright" colored. I have olive skin and black hair but it's odd that I think the only "bright" color that would look good on me is "white"? What's the science here? There had to be something here. Is it because "white" is the "opposite" of me? I'm not black or white or Latino.

I know in Cali, people who look tan look good on white t-shirts, not sure why this is. Also considering "white" shirts does not absorb heat which is why I think everyone in Cali wears white t-shirts (even plain with no designs look good on them).

Yellow-green cadmium yellow makes me look like I have a better tan. Depends on your skin tone - it can make you look 'off'.
I think that talking about it in terms of a single colour without going into the specific shade is sort of folly. Everyone will look good in snow white or charcoal black or royal purple, etc. The shade of your garment really matters a lot - as does the style of wear (some styles are not common enough in some styles to be look fashionable). Also if you don't look like a model but wear model-like outfit it may look way out of place whatever the colour. "Ugly" people tend to wear something grey/blue and not eye catching as far as styles go. Hidden fashions ...

what is your tan?

Also, since I'm not ugly, should I stop wearing grey and blue colored t-shirts? I'm assuming this goes for pants as well? So get rid of the denims/blue jeans? Also, models will look good on shitty outfits as far as I know.

Yeah I agree that plain white t-shirts will look good on any tan. Also, since most leather jackets are synonymous with the color black, I agree that the color black will look good on anyone (hence why leather is generally black). As for purple, it's the least common color (not that easy to find plain purple t-shirts or purple leather jacket). The muscle car that comes in the color purple (Plum) does look good. I think it's a Dodge Challenger.

what's the best type of clothing? I used to like those graphic tees but as I get older I feel as if these are for teenagers, am I right? I feel as if I look better wearing "plain" t-shirts than anything with writings or graphics. I think lines or stripes are becoming appealing as well rather than actual "graphics".

I think those older rapper guys who still dress like teenagers with backward hats on just look wack. So yes it matters what you wear that compliments your age or skin tone, etc.

anyone here know of a good brand fleece jacket for fall or spring? I could think of LL Bean. Anyone else? The North Face seem overpriced, right? I'm also looking to get a windbreaker jacket.

Does anyone here know of a good brand that carries the color purple on their line of clothing? Purple seem to be a hard find. I was able to find greens and dark reds (burgundy). I'm familiar with the brands LL Bean, American Eagle, Guess, All Saints (this brand is overpriced!), JNCO, Southpole, Timberland and so on. Any other brands worth checking out? I'm seeking purples...

You're going to have to post a picture.  No way around it.

Going just off description, black with silver jewelery.  I was hanging out with this mixed girl, you know black and white, and silver turquoise earings were her..  it's not universal, but that was her, silver and turquoise..  the long ones, like a few 2 inch pieces of silver, with a bead of turquoise there up near her ear lobe..  that was her..

Silk is always good.  White underlay.. I don't know, it's all going to lay on you different.  Gotta see a picture.  Brown eyes probably?

Black and silver is probably the fall back, with a few rocks that pop...  it's hard to say without seeing you.. sterling wrist piece, a few, tackfully done.. maybe an ankle piece..  tastefully though, not costume jewelery..

What's your favorite color?

Are you a dude?...  here's what I do, leather smooth moccasins, brown.  Heavy slacks, black or brown.. (kackis on my days off) , a few heavy button up shirts, most are of the fly fishing style, blue, tan, neutral brown, black.  A pair of Oakley shades and if Im feeling friskey a camo hat..haha..  I usually just comb my hair.  Not real big on 'accesories', but I like my shades...and my hat.  That's about as magical as that gets..for what its worth..

Yeah I'm a guy. Dark brown eyes, too dark can't see my pupils type. You're speaking of jewelries? I do not wear those or watches. I'm not a hat guy. I like beanies when it's cold of course.

Not sure what you mean by silver as in jewelry or clothing? Wouldn't silver be considered "gray"? Someone mentioned to me avoid grays and blues. Usually solid dark colors work well for me: black, green, red, and purple. I guess brown can be considered a solid color as well. Of course white is a solid color as well?

No moccasins here, just some brown Timberland boots. Maybe I should try some moccasins?

Express usually does but their quality of clothing for the women's clothes has gone down the past few years. The men's seems to be fine but I think their tshirts are crap.
Does it need to be a line of clothing?
It's much easier to go on a bigger store's website and change the filtered settings to a specific color.

I assumed you were a girl until I saw your username, based off your origional question.  Don't run across to many dudes that care about colors etc..

It's too complicated of a question.  I'd have to see you and know you to toss out a recommendation.  Just be slick man, no wrinkles.. keep shaved up, smell good (not cool water man!)  Obsession for men is alright.  And just do you.  If it lays right, its comfortable...rock it.  Simple as that..

They have them here.  I've been in them before, although I can't really remember much.  I think I've gotten a few Volcom hats from there.  It makes me think of spike studded belts, and chain wallets.  Accessories etc.  I might be wrong.  It's not really my style personally, kind of a skate board culture type of thing if memory serves.

They probably have a lot of black shit right?

who sells the best moccasins? Which company? The American Eagle brand only sells one and the reviews were bad. Anyone know of a good brand to check out? I need to get used to wearing a whole bunch of different shoe styles and dress styles. I've never worn a flannel shirt, you guys would think it'll look good on an olive tanned person? Depends on color?

what online stores or department stores do you people buy clothing from? I saw a K&G department store but I've never been in there. Are they all the same? Also I found this online store for the first time that sells what I had been looking for: purple colored clothings. The online store is called Sammy Dress. I just ordered a jacket to see the quality. I think they ship from China but the address at the bottom of their e-mails are based in Rancho Cucamonga, CA. Not sure if they are some sort of dropshipper company where they have bases everywhere but the parent company is China-based? I shall wait where my package is coming from. I hate to wait for 2 weeks for my shit to arrive.

I know burgundy is darker red, but sometimes it comes across as a form of purple? Maybe "plum"? Kinda like dark gray may come across as black (just lighter in shade).

what do you people think about different "styles" of clothing as in "flannel", "corduroy", or "velvet"? Any "style" I missed? Is flannel associated with being a redneck or not really? I know it can be a grunge thing, etc.

I read an article stating that olive skinned people should avoid the color "olive" which is green. I find that hard to believe because I was told greens would look good on an olive skinned person. Is it the fact that olive skin have a hint of green and yellow which is why to avoid the color "olive"? I also read to avoid the color "mustard" as well which is yellow. That I know since I have worn yellows before and it was a bad combo. I would think greens are OK if they are "army green" and not "olive"?

if anyone still cared about this topic; I just tried some greens/olives, I don't think they look good on me as much as I would like or thought. Maybe I'm not used to seeing my self in greens (especially olive type). The burgundy color looked good on me. I shall find and try some maroons or magentas (purples). Black looks good on me so are solid whites. I wonder if "oatmeal" (kinda creamy white) would look good on me.

Does this topic also apply to "bottoms" like pants or just tops? I'm not a fan of blue jeans so I stick with my dark colored jeans. Not sure if a blue jean that's a bit darker would look good on an olive skin person.
