Not even close to true.  Plenty of retailers compete on quality. You think all those kids are buying Patagonia gear because it's cheap?  Or Porsches or Mercedes?  How about Nordstroms and there are thousands and thousands of restaurants that don't compete on price.  Whole foods ... Farmers Markets ... $200 pairs of jeans ... I could list a thousand examples at least.

You are way off here.

I think the biggest reason price has become the winner in retail business is because people can't afford quality. If wages go up, walmart won't only lose money to wages, they will lose a lot of business to people who decide they want quality.

Walmart isn't just vocal about keeping wages down, they lobby for it. They take action, just like McDonalds and all the other major minimum wage paying companies.

Nothing like a little hypocrisy, is there? I notice you "forgot" to come up with any studies. I will leave you alone now, you have been reduced to a sputtering blob and I hate to see you embarrass yourself further.

You're 100% right, BBW on the low end of the spectrum.  These big companies put millions into the political system to get decisions to keep all kinds of employment law favorable for themselves and unfavorable for labor ... whether its minimum wage, benefits requirements, etc.

I think it's important to note, however, there are literally thousands and thousands of retail shops, stores, hotels and restaurants that have nothing to do with the low end of the market and no interest in it at all.  They compete on quality, value, image, taste, etc.  They are willing to pay more to employees in exchange for many things they can't get from a Walmart style minimum wage employee.

That's because I've shown these studies like 20 times in threads you've been a part of. You act as though this shit has never come up before, when it's actually a running theme throughout these forums.

Look:

You're the one who brought race up in a discussion that was totally not about race. What you said was fucking racist.

Oh woofy, you are such a tard sometimes. I used the world "white" so you go off on a rant and series of personal attacks saying its racist. "Under white rule they..." yes, they had white rule for a long time. We aren't supposed to mention it because little sad woof might take offense?

You obviously realize your argument is falling apart so you make again with the personal attacks to deflect attention from that fact. Next you will whine again about ad hominems.

With the ridiculous shit that gets thrown around on these forums like for example: 'what's wrong with being a racist anyway'?

You can't really blame me for taking your comment seriously.

I think we would all consider ourselves 'pragmatic realists'.

I want to see your evidence that wage hikes hurt the economy. I've seen plenty of studies that show no net job loss from increasing the minimum wage, but I've yet to anything demonstrating your argument. Its an argument against the poor, and that is all it is. A side-argument of trickle-downers.

"We're the wealthiest country in the world"

http://www.businessinsider.com/the-23-richest-countries-in-the-world-2015-7

That's not true, the fact that we have a large economy and many billionaires doesn't really mean we are a wealthy country.

"see evidence that wage hikes hurt the economy"

For the record, I'm NOT against a higher (within reason) minimum wage, but with that being said, it doesn't create economic prosperity.

Do you know what's the best solution to declining real wages?  A natural market solution, a TIGHTER LABOR MARKET!!!

Although this is most definitely true, technology alternatives to human labor is making this harder and harder to accomplish.

Right now, the most popular job for males in the US is driving ... taxis, trucks, delivery, etc.  It is estimated that in 20 years, that at least half of these jobs will be eliminated.  Think about that as you consider how we "shrink the labor pool."

It's not going to happen.  The opposite will happen which is that fewer and fewer people will be needed to produce what we need as a nation and more of the wealth/profits of all that "work" will be funneled to a tiny number of people which reduces the overall spending power of the masses which creates a bigger wealth gap and more slack in the real labor market.

Until we move AWAY from globalization and toward a more regional model of food, energy, manufacturing and job security, we are headed in the wrong direction.  We've had about 100 years of decision making based on what's best for corporations, now we need about 100 years of decisions based on what's best for  humanity.

You are way off here.

When the products are the exact same, price is the main issue. Of course quality plays a role, the consumer seeks value.
