Very nice ! Looks like a good yield.
Pasteurised straw? Any details would be great - esp fruiting conditions. Do you know the strain? Site specific Kings are few and far between.
EDIT looked at your earlier posts for a few details..

Thanks,Yeah the top one is pasteurised straw and the other one is pasteurised wheaten chaff with 5% gypsum. Don't know the strain. Fruited in my fruiting chamber at 60-90% humidity and between 10-20 celcius---yes I get that much swing during the day/night due to FAE requirements. Yield is around 100% on first flush. I know why these are called Kings now, they are just so delicious.

That's a result. How long did you incubate for and when did you cut holes? Spawn rate?
I ask because I have tried numerous times to grow kings on straw with zero success.

Very nice result!
I'm interested in details as well. I know you probably don't know all so estimation would be appreciated.
Weight of whole log? Spawn volume/weight? How long since pins to mature fruits? How long till they started pinning from the first day in the chamber?
Are you sure you got 100% yield?? Cuz that means the log weights as much as all the mushrooms from first flush?

When people talk about yield like that he's probably referring to biological efficiency so that's 100% of thr dry substrate mass. Not too crazy with oysters grown on straw since straw can hold so much water. The best oyster cultivators I know pull 100% BE on the first flush. Not me though :p

Glad you all like them. The log of straw only weighed about 3kgs when spawned because I didn't chop it up and couldn't compress it very hard.As you can see it wasn't fully colonised either.I colonised it for 3 weeks-1 week at fluctuating low temps and then when my new colonising room was finished it got another 2 weeks at 24 celcius. The block of wheaten chaff weighed 3.3kgs when spawned. It had 2 weeks in the colonising room @ 24 celcius and colonised fully. Both were inoculated with 200 grams colonised wheat (it was 200 grams when inoculated) and around 5% gypsum.Ist pins showed after only about 4 days in FC and It was around 14-15 days before picking. My yield figures are BE-sorry for any confusion. So if I have a log that weighs 10kgs wet there's about 3.5 kgs of dry substrate and I expect to get 3.5 kgs of mushrooms from 3 flushes.(this is the figure I work on for all my varieties but the Kings are the only ones I seem to get it all from the first flush)Don't get me wrong I only started doing this in Feb 2015 so haven't had a lot of experience. I am going to case 1 of the blocks for the second flush to see if there is a big difference from uncased ones. It's very hard to tell though as I had one block growing with these that only produced 2 mushrooms-hoping that one will give more on second flush. I have included another pic of my new size logs-10kg each-with lovely white oysters that need picking NOW! Hope I've answered all questions.Only too happy to help if I can. Edit-I punch holes in the bags when spawning - I have found (the hard way)that not enough and the log won't colonise where it can't breathe.

I only started using wheaten chaff because straw was unavailable at the time but I'm a convert now.I think the fact that there is a lot of grain in the chaff makes for extra supplement ?

no doubt. but the chaff itself probably has more nutrients than just straw.

Thanks. I use my whites to make Chickenless chow mein.My wife and I are vegetarian and heading toward being vegan_just need an egg substitute-just for the yolks- I have discovered Aquafaba for the egg whites. I use the kings to make Steak(less) and mushroom pie.Chop caps up into chunks, slice stalks thinly, one onion,1 clove garlic 1 1/2 teaspoons vegemite or any yeast extract, fry up in coconut/olive oil or both add water and thicken then bake in pie--even my carnivore friends don't believe there's no meat in it. My brother just crumbs the whites and deep fries them.
