Hpoo cakes?

Has anybody tried taking a a jar of pasteurized hpoo, and adding colonized grain to the jar, letting it colonize, and fruiting like a cake? just stoney thoughts of how to use small amounts of leftover grain.

I don't see why it wouldn't work. If you used the grain recently.
I usually just bury the grain in my houseplants soil, as they will fruit small shrooms occasionally, and mycelium will get along well with plants. (this caused a bug infestation in one of my plants though, so use with caution) I do like this idea though for larger amounts of leftovers, I might give it a shot myself.

They're very small, numerous, seem to dig below the surface of the soil. (they all come to the surface when I water it) they might be a white-ish color.
They're still in there...I'd say they were attracted to the wbs and/or the fungus itself.
I've never had bug infestations in a plant before so I'm taking the "ignore it and hope it goes away" approach

This thread seems a bit out of place in "Advanced Mycology".

where is it better suited?,"Advanced mycology" reads ", this forum is dedicated to the discussion of experimental procedure" so since i couldn't find anything on grain spawn to hpoo in a jar and fruited like a cake through my extensive searching i figured it was experimental :P

you may be sort of right, but I'm 100% certain this would get moved to mushroom cultivation if a mod saw it

Just add the manure to the top of the grains and then fruit after full colonization. Here's a thread on something similar:
https://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/22040847#22040847
They used whole brown rice and coir but you get the idea.
If it deals with actual "mycology" then it belongs here. If you are only considering the "cultivation" of mushrooms and not the biology of them then it would be better suited in mush cult. That is the main difference, mycology/biology vs. cultivation.
Let us know how it works with some updates

i think i might just let this thing colonize and just take the top off and let it fruit from the jar instead of mangling the growth to be trying to get it out of that jar, think it would be better in my sgfc in the jar or on a shelf?

http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/21390984#21390984 Fruiting in jars works well according to violet.
Only problem is your jar looks like it might be too full for invitro, so you may be better off opening it and sticking it in the SGFC. pic isn't the best quality though

I've never done in vitro but I do know that fruiting from the tops of opened jars is a very good way to go, in fact it works so well that many commercial mushrooms like enoki's are cultivated this way.
I don't know why the in vitro tech was invented except maybe to avoid using a FC which is cheap, small and easy to build so again I don't know why anyone would do in vitro... not trying to start anything here just confused as to the teks purpose.

I started looking into it as a way of making more sterile spore prints/swabs. Its also nice for the low maintenance.
Violet also makes it sound great for testing isolates
But yeah if you're just going for yield bulk is better.

yeah sorry, i didn't have access to my main picture taking device just a quick one with webacam, I'm doing it solely for the purpose of experimentation, i also have like half a pint of colonized rye that I'ma make some mycelium slurry out of

Thats what I'm thinking, definitely put it in the SGFC, if you get dirty prints clean them on agar or clone a nice cluster from your next batch.

I guess everything is relative. I was thinking the same thing though

like, put the open jar in my sgfc, or mangle the cake as little as possible and fruit it normal, the growth is insane on it today, should be done day after tomorrow, its such nice white mycelium thick healthy and aggressive as fuck, GT from MS Vendor syringe :P

Well you probably won't be able to pull it out of that jar as one cake, not even wide mouth quart jars are suitable for cakes due to the change from a rounded rectangle body to a circular opening. I have actually seen wide mouth quart jars that are a uniform cylinder and would work for cakes but judging from your picture you aren't using one.
Just pop the top in your sgfc and you should get about as good of yields as a cake, after all yield is generally based more on nutrient availability (or lack thereof) and less on the surface area of the substrate exposed to fruiting (this is a broad statement and is not always the case). Fruiting lions mane is a good example of this; you will get the same yields if you expose the whole block as if you just puncture a few tiny holes in the bag but the fruits from the tiny holes will be much larger overall.

what about chunking the jar up(like with a fork in a SAB) and mixing with a cvg mix??
