Evolution of Drugs

A favorite philosopher of mine, Robert Anton Wilson, predicted in the 80s that within a short time, we would begin to master the chemistry and relationship between drugs and our consciousness.
Essentially he was predicting the invention of drugs that are better than their predecessors, or that have been designed to fix any one problem within a certain model of consciousness.
I think we are seeing this happening now, beyond Shulgin.
although I wont point to any novel compounds prematurely, I can name a few that have been invented within the past five years that can at least compete or be considered as better than the illegal counter-part.
What do you think?
Where is the evolution of drugs taking us?

I'm not even sure what else a drug could do to me other than what they already do. Unless you meet like antibiotics and stuff nanotechnology and things like that. But really I can already get any effect(high wise) I want if I choose the correct drug.
So I'm not sure what more they can do other than find new drugs in the jungles and stuff

Are you talking about stuff like Nootropics? Although i never experimented with them myself, the possibility of increasing cognitive skills seems very interesting.

nootropics would be part of it yeah..like a pill similiar to the one in the movie limitless..
Or an LSD trip that lasts only two hours...straight up designer drugs.
alterations of current psychoactive drugs which have all the positives but none of the negatives..

How can you know you may already experience every feeling with drugs that exist?
If salvia hadn't been discovered no one would have felt the salvia effect. It's very unique. There are plenty of other drugs both recreational and medicinal out there waiting to be discovered, I definitely believe that.

Thats another point I was wanting to get to.
There could be an experience beyond the nod, beyond the trip, beyond the roll, beyond the speeding, that we just have no clue.
I feel we are approaching it though.. Shit, maybe one day there will be "enlightenment" in a pill.

I didn't mean to imply that alone that's why I added this part at the end.Quote:

Edit:I know there are drugs with effects and benifits that we don't have and haven't experienced.
Every effect I want I can already get though. As far as I know.

Gosh! this is such a broad subject that breaks way for even more interesting subjects. After thinking about it for a minute.

Drug use is becoming a science.

even now, with literally thousands of chemicals doing different things.
There is HUGE knowledge base of novel drugs that quite a few people are exploring...its like neo-shamanism.

There is no drug that will solve all your problems, and even if there was people would just find a way to exploit it for profit.

All the recent drugs came to market because they were legal or grey area. Name one drug that has gotten popular in last ten years because it's just better. I have seen a lot of bath salts and fake weed and nbomes get popular all because they were legal. I have yet to see any recreational drugs get popular because they were better. Legal highs suck and the top 10 most popular illegal drugs haven't changed in 20 years.

MXE is hella popular and is one of the best in it's class easily. Though not legal everywhere now it did start out that way. It's legality hasn't affected its popularity.
