Prepping and drying rye grain question

After soaking and boiling the rye grain and draining in a colander would it be alright to spread the grains out on several layers of newspaper to furthur allow evaporation? I ask this because even though I have a large rectangular colander I've found in the past that it was difficult to properly drain WBS. With a full colander it would be rather difficult to "toss" the grain without making a mess. So what are the thoughts about laying it on newspaper after allowing it to drain as much as possible?

Yeah it's ok to lay it out on paper. I like to stick the strainer over a fan though, it will make lots of steam release very quickly! If it's been awhile since you boiled it you might just stick with the newspaper this time, but give the fan a shot - I bet you'll be surprised how fast it works

Never used rye but I spread my WBS out on cookie sheets, often with paper towels lining the bottom of it. Works well for me. I don't see rye being different in that respect but I could be wrong.

I dump from my strainers, to large window screens, that sit on those "under the bed totes"...

Well that was super easy! Never going back to WBS! Much cleaner to work with from the get go. Rinsed it with hot water yesterday and rinsed some more with water from the tap. Let it soak over night in a water/coffee mix. Quick 10 minute boil today and it dried much quicker and easier than I thought it would. Love the stuff! Don't have to skim off floater sunflower shells and no millet getting stuck in the strainer holes. If I don't have probs with contams I am definitely sold!
