Perlite as a Casing, bottom and top?

I have a block of Horse Shit and Straw that ive gotten 2 small flushes from. But the block is too dense/thick, it seems like it is not doing well at all because of this. So in a Mono Im going to put a layer of Perlite down, crumble the Horse Shit on that, then add a small layer of Perlite over it.
Both layers bottom and top will be small layers. Any input? Thanks.

Don't put the perlite on the bottom. Perlite is a pretty poor casing layer as it doesn't retain the water so much as just act as a storage vessel. Perlite is extremely porous and has tiny surface scratches all over it. These scratches hold the water and make the perlite effective for raising the humidity.
Perlite on the bottom will do absolutely nothing but get colonized by the mushrooms. Perlite on the top will be a poor casing layer that will need to be misted often and probably end up getting colonized and slowing the process down.
I could be wrong though

To give the block of Horse Shit much more surface area to fruit. It seems that since it is so thick it is holding more moisture than what I would consider 'healthy'

Why? Perlite is meant to humidify a SGFC and that's it.....it is not part of our substrate......it does not get layered into anything.....
Besides that your mycellium is weak, and will not appreciate it that much.....

Im just curious on the results. I did it anyway
The block is not fruiting much as it is so I figure ill give this a shot just for speculation of results sake.
Ive got a shit ton of stuff on the way but at the moment this is all ive got so we will see what happens.
Ill post results to this thread in the future.
