Can I substitute crushed oyster shells for gypsum?

Im currentlt hydrating some coir/vermiculite and gywpsum for a few monotubs Im about to spawn. But, I opened a box of what was supposed to be gypsum that I recently purchased, but there must have been a mixup at the store. I'm almost positive what was in the box was crushed oyster shells due to the chunky appearance of what look like sea shells and a smell that is a bit different from gypsum. Can I use it in place of gypsum, or should I wait until tomorrow to return it?

Fuck. I really did not need that to happen. I had everything hydrated and ready to pasteurized beforw I opened up what I thought was gypsum.

You can use oyster shell. It isn't as fast acting. it will not hurt your mix. I almost never use gypsum etc with coir. You would be good to go either way.

Thanks, guys! I had enough gypsum for 2 tubs, but I ran out before I could add any to the third tub, and that's when I noticed that the contents of the box I just opened didn't look anything like gypsum. I just decided to mix all of the bulk for the three tubs together, so the remaining gypsum would get distributed evenly throughout. I think I'll be fine.

Yeah. Now you can compare them both. Good luck
