Are animals in Australia even scary?
    #22123687 - 08/21/15 05:54 PM (8 years, 5 months ago)

No, they are not.
I hear so many people claim that Australia is full of deadly animals around every corner yet while I live here I feel safer with the animals than I imagine I would in most other countries.

In Australia nothing has the intention of eating you which is the big difference in scariness. The biggest land carnivore in Australia is a Tiger Quoll. They're about a house cat in size.

Apart from that every dangerous animal is a herbivore or so small you can step on them or simply walk away.

If you know anything about the habitat you're in it's easy to feel safe from any animals there. You can walk away from a snake, not so much a bear.

In America, Africa, Russia, China and India they have man eating monsters that will tear your lungs out and shit them next to your broken bones.

Grizzly bears, black bears, cougars, tigers, lions, cheetahs, hyenas, pumas etc.

I doubt i'd be capable of camping in America due to a fear of bears. Same goes for Africa and all it's wildlife.

In Australia even the bees can say G'day.

Sun King: Walk away from, walk away from, don't swim in the deep ocean.

Niffla: Don't walk up to a kangaroo, they are usually very docile and if you leave them be they won't come up and attack unless it is for territorial defense.
That usually means the person got too close to the kangaroo.

If you live past the latitude of Rockhampton you don't go in the water, most river and lakes have dangers signs throughout about crocodiles.

Again box jellyfish are very localised so it's easy enough to avoid them.

The salt water crocs up the top end are pretty bad ass. But the rest of aus is pretty laid back. I never really got why everyone says its worse than anywhere else.

Many regions of Australia have common spider species, the most likely spiders to be on your bed in Australia are huntsmen spiders or daddy long legs, both of which pose no harm. The most common dangerous spider is the redback spider which live in sheds and generally abandoned areas. It's unlikely that a dangerous spider such as a red back would be on a bed.

As with spiders there are common snakes, one of which is a python which once identified (simple back markings) is not a real danger. Dangerous snakes live in the outback although i'd be more worried about being in the outback than of snakes.

There's only danger if you put yourself in danger...
In America that danger chases you in the form of a bear.

Not entirely true Sudly, where im from. The most common snake in sa is the king brown or the red belly black. Not only in the outback but in populated areas. As for the spiders, your pretty spot on but we also get alot of white tips.

But a drop bear hides in the trees, waiting, lurking for you to walk by. Maybe on that secluded bike path you love to stroll through and watch the sunrise. As you study the oranges, reds, and deep maroon tinted purples of the Australian sky, a drop bear descends upon you. It's first claw into your throat. You're already dead but you'll spend a few hours bleeding before you find any relief. That is the fear Australians live in every day.

Black bears are like gigantic squirrels. The minute you make a movement, they run away... I'm not saying to back them up in a corner though, cause they'll kill you. I'm just saying, they spook easy.
