Mushrooms to help Depression/Suicidal friend?

Yesterday a friend of mine attempted suicide by overdose and had called the police and he ended up in the ER. He has been suffering from depression for years now.
He has done many drugs, but never any psychedelics.
He has been interested in trying mushrooms as soon as I can get some out, but, now I am looking at if this is a good idea for him or not.
I know how mushrooms work, what are your guys experience or input on this? Would the mushrooms HELP him, or would they make him commit suicide? In this situation, I CANNOT be responsible for his suicide. And wouldnt want it.

Psychedelics should not be taken by people with severe and uncontrolled mental illness. It is not safe, and he any number of things could go wrong. Any other answer to this question is irresponsible.

I knew this kid in college. He was definitely schizophrenic, but wasn't diagnosed and had probably only been developing symptoms beyond an unstable mood (a friend of mine who had known him for years saud he prevented him from attempting suicide, but I don't know at what age) for a couple years at most. He would always take psychedelics when he could, and he rarely had what you or I would consider a positive experience. Once I recognized that he was developing schizophrenia, I consistently discouraged him from taking psychedelics, to little success. Be also refused to accept it when I eventually explained to him that he was likely schizophrenic. Eventually, other people in our social circle would discourage him from partaking with the rest of us. Eventually people joined me in actively trying to prevent him from having access to psychedelics as his distress while under their influence became increasingly obvious. This culminated in him having a full blown psychotic break. During this episode, he became violent and could not be contained. We were forced to call the police in order to prevent him from seriously injuring himself or somebody else. After that, he withdrew from our social group. Just one anecdote about what can go wrong.

I don't think that it's a good idea to give your friend psychedelic drugs when he's severly depressed.
I was diagnosed with dysthymia a couple of months ago and I tried mushrooms to treat it but it only got worse, I got WAY more suicidal thoughts and I got way more depressed.
Psychedelics can be a great method for self exploration but only IF you have the right mindset, if you do mushrooms or any other psychedelic while having a bad set or mental illness it WILL get a lot worse.
My advice for your friend is to see a psychiatrist and share his feelings/thoughts to friends and family, and also to excercise and go out a bit more, it certainly helped me so it could help him.
I hope your friend gets better soon, I know what it's like to be in that deep dark hole.

Thanks guys.
I planned to give him some only because he seemed like a somewhat regular guy, albut quite strange. I knew he suffered from Depression, but thats all I knew about.
I didn't know he was totally fucking insane (may be an exhageration, but not so much so if hes trying to OD and check himself into a psych ward)
Depression is one thing, but being suicidal and considering himself mental, or crazy, is not good.
If anyone else wants to give experiences or input feel free. But besides that Im going to say; THREAD CLOSED.

Untreated sever MDD can cause psychosis.so, he probably was "insane", so to speak, at the time. Psychiatric treatment can be very frustrating and discouraging for many people because, while the vast majority of cases can be managed very effectively, it often requires trying many different medications, and combinations of medications, before finding what works for that individual. That combined with the fact that many psychiatric medications take an absolute minimum of 2 weeks to be effective leads many people to conclude that treatment will not help them and give up. So, give him encouragement.

Not a good idea to trip some one out when they are mentally unstable

Get your friend off the other drugs. The only way mushiness would help, is if they started a different lifestyle interest. I am supposedly schizoeffective and have had great trips. Back on the wagon now (meds), but if things were different I could go back off meds and trip again. It's best to get ride of any mental momentum before tripping. Fasting, meditation, living a stable life are all good pre treatments for a positive experience. If your friend can't be stable without a strong desire for negativity, any drug would just add momentum.
Ghandi took an anti spsychotic in herbal form. Indian snake root is very similar to atypical antipsychotics. But ghandi also had a lot of control over himself. Just for some info

Don't do it, psychedelics for people with this kind of issues should only be administered under psychiatric supervision, otherwise this could turn to the worst...
