how long does pot stay in your saliva?
    #22120619 - 08/21/15 03:17 AM (8 years, 5 months ago)

I was recently pulled over by the police. They did the Normal routine, check my licence, got me to blow in the bag and then they drug tested me... I hadn't smoked since 2 am and got pulled over after 3pm.. I thought pot stayed in your saliva about 4 hours but I was wrong. Anyone know roughly how long it is?

Don't quote me, but I think it's just a few days (or may even just be hours, can't really remember) at max, would depend on a bunch of factors.

Saliva testing is a poor way to go about drug testing for any other situation besides when you need to know if the person very recently used. It leaves a very narrow window for finding positive results.

Yeah, like 1-3 days. I always figured if an organization was saliva testing but meant that they want to minimize the number of people who test positive while still being able to say they drug test.

It's probably an iffy test scientifically, and can be beat. But do you want to do a public defender (which might work) or spend 3-5 K on a real experienced defense attourney?

It's not often untrue that you get as much justice as you can afford.

I dunno if I agree with that. I mean to a certain extent it's true. If you have a high profile and very expensive lawyer, of course things are going to go better than with someone who charges 500.

But you don't always have to run out and drop thousands for what is basically a minor case. It all depends on the facts. With enough evidence (and no trial) a 5k lawyer really isn't going to be able to do much more for you than a 500 dollar one. Sometimes you're just in a no win scenario and all you need is someone who understands the law to argue on your behalf to get you the lightest sentence possible. Just because a lawyer is cheap, doesn't mean he doesn't know everything the more expensive one does.

When you're looking at years in prison or something. It pays to pay. When you're looking at probation at worst (or just looking at fines and community service realistically) there's really no reason to drop a bunch of money on a lawyer.

A very expensive lawyer isn't necessarily more knowledgeaarguments the law or more skilled at formulating legal arguments than a cheap one, but that's not what you're paying for. You're paying them because they're friends with the judge and the DA.

Yes, but it's unlikely a lawyer is going to talk them into just dropping the case with strong enough evidence to get the conviction. When you're only looking at minimal punishment to begin with, it's kind of just wasting money. When I was caught with weed, I got a relatively small fine and a license suspension (mandatory in my state, but I didn't drive at the time so it didn't matter anyways) and that was it. I used a cheap as hell lawyer. The evidence was there, and there was no technicality to get me off on. A 5k lawyer wouldn't have gotten me off, and even if he had, that fee is still several times over what I ended up paying.

In a serious case, you should definitely shell out. when it's something minor, don't waste the money. That is what I'm saying.

Unfortunately,(or fortunately) this was true in my situation.

When I was busted with 8 oz. of meth, I used the same 'drug lawyer' I had used 2 years earlier to beat a weed distribution case,
(1 lb. packaged for sale, poss. in school zone, poss. of scale and baggies, sales to minor,
{she was a hot 17 year old, and I was but a few years older:borfase:,
and she got it for free} ).

It cost well over $5,000 for the pot case and involved two full jury trials(hung jury both times).
A mistrial was declared the third time. That lawyer was awesome on the stand, really made the cops and witness look like morons.

The meth case wasn't so easy. I sold directly to UC and had been under surveillance for a while.
I also had a hand gun(not charged:confused:) and all manor of paraphernalia in my house.
DA's final offer was 5 - 10 state time for a guilty plea.

My lawyer told me early on that the first judge was hardcore anti-drug and we needed to get a better one.
He filed for continuances and other delays and somehow got a different judge.
When they offered me 11 1/2 to 23 months, I jumped on it.

As I recall, the meth case cost less than 5 grand, but I was able to pay some of it in weed and coke.:smirk:
This was over 30 years ago, your results may vary.:goodluck:

Also, does anybody know if this saliva test
is under consideration here in the US?
