Okay guys been awhile since i used the Shroomery. all the information ive been given is spot on from you guys. I have been getting grains down (mostly WBS) and recently switched to rye berries, did acouple popcorn jars just to see witch i liked more. everything is going good but i shook a rye jar(at about 30-40% kinda late i know) and was drawn to another task so i did not shake the rest. I went to check my jars a day later and the one shaken jar has horrific bacterial growth. a nasty yellow fuzz covering my myc. i can post pics if need be. now i am scared if all my jars are contam or should i just avoid shaking the rest?

I don't think jars contaminate by shaking--but you can surely spread an already existing problem that way. But,. if there is bacteria growing secretly in a jar, sooner or later it will make itself known. I recently had a clear tupperware minimono going--it was a substrae of coir and coffee grounds spawned with colonized rye berries.Things were going nicely for a week, but there was a band of substrate that stubbornly refused to get white. Finally I shook the tub--it had a cover on it--to distribute mycelium evenly throughout the substrate. Growth from that point seemed to stop. Later I opened the lid, sniffed, and ugh, what a smell!
I hope that is not going to be your experience.

shaking is actually a good way to check for contaminates. the jars were already contaminated before you shook them. it was just the temporary damaging of the mycelium that allowed the contam to gain a foothold and show itself. had you not shaken it, it would have just contaminated whatever you spawned it to, like a monotub.
a healthy jar will recover from a shake with no issues.

If you don't shake the contams are still there...so shake before you spawn them and watch how they recover. Sucks to find out after you make a few tubs!
