Tesseract Shit my phone won't paste the link I'll try later.
I honestly think music Is dead as an art form, it's the most commercially exploited art form, and the majority of the "realness" has long left the music industry.
I still go to shows, and I have a good time, but every scene is like full of these plastic cookie-cutter versions of the sub-culture the music promotes, rather than be an individual these people will throw on a tie die shirt and only listen to the popular jam bands, only forming their opinions based on what their subculture thinks as a whole...same with punk rock, it's not individual expression any more, it's rows of leather jackets and mohawks, or if it's crust-punk it's rows of carhart clothing and dreadlocks...this goes for any scene, just being a scene means you have conformed to the norms of that cultures expectations of what a "punk" is or what a "hippie" is or what a "raver" is....it was all supposed to be about the freedom to be yourself without judgement, now it's turned into the "freedumb" to conform to an image...
I still love all genres of music and go to all types of shows, but I can still see how these bands promote a set image and market it to these "scenes" of people, and I refuse to buy into all that, it's almost made me abandon going to see live music all together...
I like any music as long as it's true artistic expression, However very little of the music that's out there is...

I actually think it's the opposite because since torrents became a thing there has been a lot less record sales. The ones that continue to put stuff out and tour are the ones that care about the music even though it's not profitable.

I don't see how your post has anything to do with what I said. I guess I should have said I hear people like gene Simmons and Billy Corgan say that rock is dead. I didn't mean to generalize.

Hmmm...I suppose I had not considered the internet's impact on the record industry, and thus the industry's ability to exploit consumers...
Though these "scenes" still really drive me crazy, and to define yourself as a "punk" or a "hippie" or what ever, is an excuse for being an individual, your taking someone else's style, image and ideas and calling them your own, and most people care more about "being punk" or whatever it is, than they do about the actual music, and in turn a good deal of the music reflects this and is just background for an image.
The true artists are out there, but i find them more in writing, poetry, painting, sculpture, etc...other mediums of art predominantly contain the true individuals, the true free thinkers, who are producing this art as an expression of their individuality, who are not worried if their art is conforming to anybody's standards, they are not trying to be "punk" or "hippie", they just are, they are freaks in the truest sense of the word, and it's a distinction they should be proud of, being a freak means regardless of what anybody has to say you did it the way YOU thought it should be done.....generally it's these freaks that start the "scenes", one freak spawns one billion imitators, so even in music I look for the freaks, and regard the rest as cheap imitations.

I'm not a huge fan or anything and don't have them on my ipod, but considering what gets played on the radio I think it's at the top... not that that says much.

I keep seeing people misuse custy on the shroomery lately. A custy is someone on Phish lot or at a festival just to buy drugs not for the music. Short for customer.
