Things I’ve Learned While Being Employed plus POLL * 5
    #22115491 - 08/20/15 06:13 AM (8 years, 5 months ago)

Things I’ve Learned While Being Employed (See poll at the 1st reply)
.
1. Almost every job has pieces of shit. Some may very well be your coworkers. Make no mistake, many of those “nice” people will gossip behind your back or even fuck you over for temporary gain. Many people will snitch on you for no reason besides the simple fact that they are scumbags. Be especially weary of immature and mentally unstable women.
.
2. Employers basically own your life. You can’t do drugs in your spare time, have true free speech, or do anything that offends your employer.
.
Many states are “at will;” which means they are legally allowed to fire you for no reason. Government employees have more protection. However, if you do get fired you are basically blacklisted for federal jobs for 7 years.
.
3. The majority of bosses are fucking assholes in one way or another. Many bosses will bully you, yell at you, or be straight dicks to you for no apparent reason.
.
4. Its best not to tell coworkers any secretes. If you do, you better have dirt on them as well so they keep their mouths shut.
.
5. Don’t think about work on your own time. Enjoy the little free time you have.
.
6. Know what little rights you have as an employee.
.
7. Separate work life and personal life as much as possible.
.
8. Be as conservative at work as possible around the “untrustworthy” types of coworkers (70% +). When in doubt keep your mouth shut.  Always think twice before you say anything controversial.
.
9. Be nice to your boss so you can keep the peace. If you’re “lucky” he or she might be nice back.
.
10. Employers are generally nosey pieces of shit and will not hesitate to violate your privacy.
.
11. Don’t flirt with coworkers unless you don’t care about your job.
.
12. Many women, in particular, will act like your friend and then attempt to fuck you over.
.
13. Many employers expect you to break your back for mediocre wages.
.
14. Employers generally do not care about your mental or physical health unless they are legally required to.
.
15. Many bosses will brag at first about how “great” and “meaningful” your job is going to be. Most of the time they are highly exaggerating if not lying to you.
.
16. Never hesitate to leave a mediocre job for a better one. Most companies don’t give a fuck about loyalty on their side of things.
.
17. Never send incriminating texts to your coworkers. Sadly, there are pieces of shit out there that will use this to stab you in the back because you are a minor inconvenience in their life.
.
18. For every acceptable job out there, there are 10 shitty ones.
.
19. It is fairly hard to escape the rat race if you are a typical American.  I wish you luck if you have kids and debt with a low paying job. But hey if you have more than 2 kids you might deserve it since you contributed to the colossal problem of overpopulation and consumption.
.
20. All in all, it is best to be financially stable enough to be able to be very picky when it comes to taking a job.
.
21. If you have an “acceptable” job then you are one of the lucky ones. The majority of Americans are dissatisfied with their jobs. I have worked shitty factory and fast food jobs along with countless others.
.
The “best” job I’ve had so far is one that pays $15 an hour and I basically work 10% of the day. The rest of the day I sit around and listen to music and read while waiting for customers to come in.
.
Here’s the catch; I’ve been stabbed in the back multiple times by psychopathic bitches that I had to work with in the past and have been threatened to be fired and blacklisted if I don’t “shape up.”
.
My boss is an obese piece of shit that has called me names multiple times. Thankfully, I don’t have to see this ticking time bomb very often. My friends, comparatively speaking, this is what I would call an “acceptable” job. Good luck out there.

I don't mind my job really, plus I can get high on my down time, oftentimes smoking with the bosses' son, who is my age.

Those are all true for the miserable jobs you will get if right out of high school or putting yourself through college. Best to keep your mouth shut, make your money and get the fuck out. Share nothing about yourself. Keep your co-workers as co-workers. Don't fraternize. The worse a company is, the bigger the asshole the boss will be and the stricter the rules. It's an ego or power trip thing.

I definitely agree. This is only my second job out of college. I am glad I learned these lessons early on and dodged some bullets. It sucks that people are the only reason I dislike my current job.

God damn women in the workplace. One slightly minor negative comment and they go to the boss immediately to snitch. It happened 3 times to me already with the same fucking girl in 9 months.

I get a little annoyed with my job, but I've never had a job that I didn't. Overall my bosses are pretty cool. They do a pretty good job of accommodating my Aikido training 5 days a week, and usually if I need time off to go do something, as long as I give a week or 2 notice it's no problem.

It's retail though, and that aspect of it does get old. That and the fact the they run their staffing pretty damn tight. Makes it hard for me to meet all my responsibilities and help every customer that needs help.

I'm getting screwed over at my job

My bosses are nice and all but I get the shit-end of the stick, my 78 year old coworker gets 54 hours a week every week while I get 32

So I don't make shit for the amount of work that I do, I don't even get benefits, and the place is getting busier every day

There's so many things that piss me off about my job I could go on and on but I won't because no one wants to hear that shit.. I honestly don't care if I have to start working a shitty job with dickhead bosses busting my ass the whole time at least then I'll be making enough money to support myself until I can figure out something better

Couple of tips. If you don't like your job, find a new one that pays more BEFORE you quit or get fired. Think you can't? Educate yourself, and many doors will open. No good jobs where you live? Move. Have a problem with authority? Start a business and work for yourself. If you're not willing to make the necessary changes, enjoy being stuck with shitty jobs.

That being said im a trainer and do everything you can there. But they won't Give me a dime more. There's no oppurtinity i have to take a bus which im on now just to get to the town on the ocean.

Lot of socioeconomics going on which im just happy to be getting paid in the first place.

No, it's not simple. It's hard to do. That's why not many do it. Each of us are the masters of our own reality. Most just don't know it.

I guess I'm an anomaly. I've had great experiences and worked with some really awesome people. Very little of this list applies to my work history.

Same. Most of my friends come from the places i work. The only thing I'd say is don't date in the workplace. Don't shit where you eat. A casual fuck i do it all the time but it really sucks arguing at the work place. As if work doesnt suck enough

"Employers basically own your life. You can’t do drugs in your spare time, have true free speech, or do anything that offends your employer."

I can do all the drugs I want in my spare time. I just can't go on TV or Facebook and do drugs where customers or suppliers could see it. My employer doesn't care about drugs as long as I am not doing them at work or ruining companies image by doing it in public. Sometimes you have to sacrifice freedoms for a job. I can't join the nazi party and march with them either.
Other things your employer may frown on include becoming a porn star / stripper or getting a neck tat. I know in a perfect world it should only matter what you do on the job and nothing outside of that but would you hire a nazi stripper neck tattoo having employee if it cost you customers? It's easy to say you would but when its your life savings I bet you'd rethink it.
-----
"Almost every job has pieces of shit. Some may very well be your coworkers. Make no mistake, many of those “nice” people will gossip behind your back or even fuck you over for temporary gain. Many people will snitch on you for no reason besides the simple fact that they are scumbags. Be especially weary of immature and mentally unstable women."

Meh met lots of guys who are rat bastards too. I am still friends with chicks I worked with 10 years ago.

-----

"Its best not to tell coworkers any secretes. If you do, you better have dirt on them as well so they keep their mouths shut."

Why would you tell co workers secrets? If you need someone to talk to find a shrink or a bartender. I don't fucking want to hear your dirt and after 10 beers at office xmas party I might say shit just because I am drunk and think it's funny. Just keep it to yourself. What good could possibly come from sharing secrets? You give people dirt to file away and as soon as they get mad they can drop a bomb.

-----

"Don’t flirt with coworkers unless you don’t care about your job."

Sounds like we are getting to the real issues now. Maybe it isn't just women are nosy backstabbers, maybe you made some bad moves here too. There are 3.5 billion women on the planet, why would you want to bang a co worker you are going to have to see every day for years? I am trying to limit cliches but don't shit where you eat.

----
"Employers generally do not care about your mental or physical health unless they are legally required to."

Ok my boss brought me soup when I was sick. Not everyone works for a giant company there are small businesses who are kind to employees. When I was really sick my boss texted/called me several times in hospital to tell me not to worry about my job or money. But there is a flip side to that too. If i got call saying they needed me for emergency at work I would be there any day or night at any hour. You, by your own admission, are not cool with that. While I relax and enjoy the time off my phone is never off and I can always be reached.
---------

"Never send incriminating texts to your coworkers. Sadly, there are pieces of shit out there that will use this to stab you in the back because you are a minor inconvenience in their life."

Kind of common sense there. And once again: what did you do? Send the chick from HR a dick pic? People today send too many incriminating texts.
------

The “best” job I’ve had so far is one that pays $15 an hour and I basically work 10% of the day. The rest of the day I sit around and listen to music and read while waiting for customers to come in.

That's what I am doing now, its a phone though I don't have to actually see them. Any job I can post all night and watch a few tv shows can't be that bad. For a while I was doing work online while working and getting paid twice. There are people out there who don't sit down all day, people with real jobs. Be happy if you don't have to do shit. Fuck I take naps at work.
What are you looking for anyway? A pat on the back? A "job well done" happy face sticker? People go years without hearing any compliments, taking abuse etc. I wouldn't run my company that way but it's pretty normal. Is the problem maybe you are from the generation that got a trophy just for participation? Where no one ever failed and everyone was a unique snowflake? Babying kids like that doesn't prepare them for workforce. You really should not have to be told no inappropriate texting or keep the drug stories to yourself or don't stare at your co workers asses. The rules apply to everyone, including you. I knew all that at 16 years old.
21st century economy is shit. Middle class is shrinking and the new jobs are crappy or part time. Mexicans are taking the manual labor jobs in USA and will do assembly line work for 5 bucks an hour in Mexico. You need to find a job an illegal immigrant can't do.
