really nice bounty. I do buy a lot of cactus online, at least i'm doing it lately. I can get many intresting plants , expecially, they come kinda cheap if grafted . but the excitement of being there and looking at hundreds of plants for sale is just incomparable. In less than a month there will be another cactus fair at Botanical garden of my city, so i got already in pre excitement.
Anyhow, i do look forward to partecipate one of this big events in the future.
Just by curiosity, how much did you payed for Albertos ? ( grafts and non grafts)

Those plants amounted to about 75€, IIRC. Plane fares, train fares, the hotel in Blankenberge and the obscene amount of beer I've had in two days (it's Belgium, guys, c'mon!) make this a fraction of the whole. Staying with good friends in Brussels makes it all worthwhile by itself.

The Albertos were 8€ for the grafted plant and 10€ each for the others. Admittedly expensive by Jaroslav Šnicer himself (the guy that discovered them), because they were not his production. He is a very kind man and spent some time talking to me and explaining how this population - VM768 - is the original one and much prettier than the others found further up north. He told me if I had any questions I could mail him at his site: he always answers, altough sometimes it takes a while. A very nice guy indeed.
I arrived friday, on time to see most of what was on offer (by late friday the more unusual plants were already gone) and managed to buy almost everything I wanted (the only thing that I did not manage to find was a decently priced Dorstenia gigas, the ones that I saw went from 30€ up...) Being there and seeing all the wonderful plants is great, but being able to talk with all those guys you read about is a rare privilege.

My exemplars are VM 758 ... never understood this number meaning anyway. I guess that's the location right? then those must be at least near the "original Ones"
That must have been a great experience talking to him, I did actually knew him from this article he wrote, A really informative one. http://www.lophophora.info/Lophophora+alberto-vojtechii.pdf So strange that it comes in English AND ITALIAN (Probably thanks to guglielmo pandolfo, an italian Latin professor) !

My bad, I misspelt the number: it's VM758. It corresponds to a given location AND date of collection. VM is the initials of Vojtech Mysák, a guy that has done extensive collecting of Lophophora on Mexico.
The fact that the original description is also in italian is due to the fact that it was published in an italian magazine. It's a matter of courtesy, if not mandatory by the magazine's standards.

I'm soooo jealous LSoares
Looks like you had a great time and have a lot of beautiful plants to show for it
I wish I knew why Europeans and such have a lot more to do with cacti than us Americans
It makes me sad though

Well, you have in the US an annual show and sale of cacti, held by the CSSA at the Huntington Botanical Gardens. I believe it's in late June. And I'm sure there are statewide shows held by the various chapters of the CSSA.

I'll have to plan on going to a CSSA show/sale sometime. It would be quite a drive for me to go down to California, but well worth it.

I flew to Brussels and then got to Blankenberge by train: it would be nearly 1300 miles, should I decide to drive there...

That depends on the country: they surely don't get any respect on MY country, we're just a few with no organization whatsoever...

I don't know what part of the US you live in,but there are 1000's of cactus societies, cactus shows, conventions, you name it here in the good old US,and actually I think Americans love cacti more than any other country,to be quite honest
