Pressure cooker sound????

I just fired up a Pressure Cooker I bought for 10.00 dollars at an antique shop. It built pressure fine and I didn't see any steam escaping from anywhere but the top of the stopcock. There was a sound of steam escaping from the same. Is this normal? The PC is one which does not require a gasket. It was made by the parent companyn of All-American. I brought it up to 15 psi and had the dial turned dowm to medium at the end.

sounds fine to me. does it have a safety release? if the safty release is in good shape, you're fine.

This cooker only has one valve on it it is off centre and has a metal peice on the end which resembles a toggle switch. Up and the steam is released, down, or horizontal rather, and steam only comes out aroun 14-15 psi. Or that's what I saw of it. I only kept it at 15 for a minute maybe.

Every pressure cooker has several safety valves that release the pressure if it gets too high to prevent the vessel from exploding.

But Anno!!!
My cooker only has three thing son top. one is the handle, one is the petcock I suppose, and the other is the pressure guage.
Am I missing some vital peice of safety equipment or did my petcock release steam because of overpressurization?
When I say petcock I am refering to the item on top which looks similar to a togle switch sitting atop a 1 or 2 inch tall cylider with 3 holes around it's perimeter.
TELL ME I'M NOT SCREWED PLEASE!!!!!!! or crush my hopes in an effort to preserve my health, whichever seems proper

That would be the case. I assume the pressure on the gauge was about 15 psi then?

Yes it was exactly 15 psi, could have been 14 but certainly not 13. I looked at 13 but didn't look again until 15, and steam was escaping from the top of this mechanism.
I proceeded to turn the heat down and then off Trkgsy

Perfectly normal, that sound should indicat that its reached 15 psi. Its letting off steam when the pressure raises above 15 to keep it at the same level. If it didn't release any steam at all, it would probably blow (?).

It also has 20 on the dial, are pressure cookers made to not go above 15?
I did not set any sort of mechanism to keep it there, I assume it is just automatic from what anno said.
Thanks for the help everybody, I would really be in a shitty mushroom situation without the shroomery!!!!
