My First Grow Golden Teacher... what do u think?
    #22110032 - 08/19/15 07:32 AM (8 years, 5 months ago)

So I started growing my Golden teacher mushrooms about 4 weeks ago. this being my first time through I figured I had to be as sterile as possible so I build a nice little glove box.
then I got my spore syringe in the mail the day after I built it.
so I decided to inoculate 4 jars because the pressure cooker I got could only hold 4 at a time. this is about 2 days in to incubation.. sry I didn't take day by day pics. they sat in my incubation closet for about two weeks in total after I broke them up I took a couple of pics here are 2 jars . during the second week I build an auto terrarium
at about 4 days in my fruiting chamber I took a pic of each of my trays..
at about 7 days in the fruiting chamber they looked like this [url=https://files.shroomery.org/files/15-34/998844033-KIMG00891.jpg][/url. today is day 10 in the fruiting chamber but I haven't checked it in a few days.... my "little" helper has been checking them every few hours and fanning a lil bit even though it isn't really needed with this terrarium. the day I made my traqys I decided to inoculate some more jars so I got as many as I could filled and turned out to get about 8 more jars and 4 days in to there incubation they look like this
I know this isn't a full in depth post but I just wanted to share what I have gone through in my experience. now everything talks about contamination and for my first grow I figured I would actually have to scrap everthing and try again. but with all the precautions I have taken and the special helper I have who has all day to keep an eye on them we have yet to have any contaims. that doesn't mean I wont in the future but it shows that if precautions are taken in the right manner the anyone even someone with less than 2 weeks of research can grow clean and health mushrooms.. so for anyone out there who thinks a pressure cooker or a Glove box is not really needed I just want you to realize the the 50 dallors I spent will be made back with my first sale.the pressure cooker cost me about 30$ up at a local kmart and the glove box in total cost about 20$. 10$ for the tote 2 for the rubber gloves about 6 for the plastic tube we cut and used usedfor the arm holes. this cheep box keep everything 100% sterile and definitely worth the money. for my incubation chamber I ordered a mist makes then went to hard ware store and grabbed some 1/2'' clear tubing. then went to lowes and grabbed perlite. and then I stopped at a biglots and grabbed 2 30 gal totes. I only have one on the mist maker container atm but will be putting them both off the same mist maker today because the rest of my jars will be ready for sunday or Monday. for my trays I just went and grabben some baking aluminum pans that are in packs at the grocery store. the things u need in order to grow mushrooms can be found in juswt about all communities and it only takes a lil but of imagination. yesterday we also set up a room in the basement that will one day been a full room for fruiting. I just don't have a heap filter yet but will in due time... I also have a couple of other ppl in my area growning a few different strain so we are becoming a lil community of mycologist. I do not pertend to know what I am doing nor do I believe that im a professional but these are my experiences and If u have any questions I will gladly try to help you out... if u notice n e thing I am doing wrong let me know... this is also my first post about my grow... im a better cultivator and blogger but I hope this helped u in some way or another

You should post this in the mushroom cultivation forum. You'll likely get a lot more feedback etc over there. Nice work though, looks like your sterile technique is good

OMG never seen aerial mycelium like that before! You know what that means, right? The mycelium is starving for fresh air bro.. If I were you, I'd start punching holes in that tub ASAP and increasing the amount of perlite to about 5". There's still hope!!! :goodluck:

what type of filter do you have on your lids? you should not keep the foil on the lid after the sterilization cycle. its not necessary and can be bad if it gets your filter wet from being stuffed up in there.

a glove box is kinda old school but it does work for some people. a SAB seems to work better and is what most people use. it is also a lot easier to use and you can flame sterilize your tools which you do not want to do inside your box. (makes air currents)

and your auto setup is not as good as it might seem. a lot of people think the more complicated the better but you can see with that mycelium its starving for air. look up SGFC if your gonna keep doing trays but i suggest going with monotubs since you seem to have bulk sub down. the monotub is the simplest way to put out mad weight for handing out for free in my opinion.

give them some air and i think you'll see fruits soon

edit: just an extra tip, fanning is not really done for FAE it is just to kick start the evaporation process after a misting. FAE needs to be constant is more important than humidity in my experience. you want as much fresh air as possible without having your stuff dry out

actually i think the room we had it in was a poor choice but we moved it to a room with some actually air flow then i drilled some more holes in it. i only had 2 holes on the end of the box... now i have holes on all sides... and with the mist maker humidity isnt really a problem. but thanks you the information im still learning and really hope i fixed it in time. with out the forum i most likely would have had them die and no idea why. i started learning how to grow mushrooms probbly 3 months before i decided to even order the spores. but the just proves that u really dont know till u try. now that ive moved the box to a better location and drilled a lot more holes in it ill give u guys some updated photos in the next couple of days.

i actually didnt get any filters i watched a few videos that said not to tighted the lids fully but to have them just catch and they would be fine... as you can see sterilization isnt my problem tho so i dont see a reason to get them yet.

i dont have much of a sterile house with 3 dogs 3 cats and one of the cats just had kittens so im being over caution. better safe than sorry. but i do agree it is a lil difficult to use. but a SAB is just a less fancy glove box and if i cant be completely sterile why risk any contams.

Ok well I'd recommend taking all the sources you have, and deleting them from your computer. Seriously wow. I'm not even going to say anything about the PMP. Just wish you luck with that one.

But jars have to have filtered GE. Whether it be a dry verm layer, polyfil, or a sfd. Seriously get that shit filtered. If you knew anything about what the air is like, you'd be like what am I doing? In 1 little cm in the air a foot away from you face contains over 200,000 particles. Every milimeter on your skin contains 500,000.

Yeah I did come off strong. :hehehe: but it was meant to benefit you. I can tell you I told myself the exact same things I did to you. Except a lot more harsher words were used like you're such an idiot

SGFC is what all the cool kids use. Seriously though, just do like 1 hour of searching on this site. Look at grows with a sgfc and ones with a PMP. Especially the ones from trusted cultivators. You'll see the differences. A shotgun is less than $20 to make, and no other chamber besides like a gh can compare.

Read through these too:

if I was to swap to a monotub what would u recommend for a substrate? and for the polyfill can I just get that at a local art supply store?
how does keeping the humidity up work with a monotub? I understand with the PMP that the pump and mist maker cause humidity to rise along with the perlite... doing the 6 holes for air flow makes sence the way it was explained in one of them links Mad Season gave me to look at.

once I make my monotub and its ready to grow in how does it work. do I inoculate jars first or do I just inoculate right in to the tub? from what I can grasp from the posts is that inoculating right in the tub is possible. if so how do u recommend I do it. I know these a kinda noob questions but im a lil nervous that ill fuck something up... I don't mind spending the money as long as I don't mess it up and have to repurchase things. and I assume that the monotub mean I don't need a SGFC... any feed back or a specific post the details all of this that I can read up on would be greatly appreciated.

never mind I found my answer for the recommended substrate coir/verm with some gypsum.. idk if I can find the gypsum but ill look around if not ill order it online... trying not to order online for to many items rather pick up at store. I know I have to order the coir cuz I have been able to find that. ill probably wait till I finish off the substrate I already have inoculated. but I will diffidently be building a monotub. in the future.  as for my glove box I believe I can disassemble it and turn it in to a SAB with minimal issues... all I really have to do is remove the gloves and add some tyvek sleeves... if im not mistaken...
