Salvia "cutting" straight to dirt?

Hey guys! So I was wondering if it'd be okay to place a salvia cutting straight to moist dirt for it to develop it's roots. It's in a small cup pot. I wasn't really planning for a cutting, but one of my smaller salvia plants broke off of a main stem while I was moving the pot.
So should the salvia plant be fine and root the soil?

I think people usually put cuttings in a cup of water first. I have big salvia plants I need to take cuttings from so I'd like to hear some tips too.
Anybody?
Should we cut the leaf tips like cloning pot plants?

Hey guys, I'm my experiences, give the cuttings a fresh cut and put the stems in a glass of good water. Tap water that has sat for a day or 2 is fine. Place the cuttings in a less bright place, not in their usual light so to lessen the stress and it allows the cutting to focus on growing roots more than growing leaves. Should see roots in 10 days.
I ve heard it helps cutting the leaf tips but I haven't tried it
Rooting directly into soil would work fine as well as long as the soil is kept moist.

I do both! I put the new cutting in a small seedling pot with moist potting soil and then I put the seedling pot into a larger vessel filled with water about 2/3 of the way up the seedling pot. I put this assembly into a high humidity environment (SFC) and leave it for several weeks before removing the pot from the water. Now I have the seedling in soil without disturbing the roots.
It has worked for me every time.

I always go straight to dirt. It works really well for me. I use rooting hormone and a humidity chamber until roots develop, though.

Well the cutting is still green, but the top part of the main stem, and all the leaves are extremely limp. It hasn't started dying, so I guess that's a good sign.

Sounds like it might need a higher humidity location.

You definitely need to provide humidity when rooting this way.

With high humidity and a water/soil mix I don't see any wilting
