Bushwalking Pictures- Native orchids, plants and stuff 3

Before I start, the word, Bush will replace the word, forest. That's what we call it down here in Australia, and in New Zealand as well.
I mostly only head into the bush in search of mushrooms during Autumn-Winter, but I now live in an area surrounded by Native forest so I go out more frequently. It's at the tail end of Winter here now, Spring is just around the corner. This thread will be a place where I post my pictures from these walks. I headed out today in search of Native orchids. I found a few, plus some other plants. Most are very small and hard to spot. Here they are.
The area I headed into. It's Box Iron bark Country, in the Central Goldfields Region of Victoria, Australia. In the past this area was heavily mined for Gold. It's one of the richer areas of Gold in the world. A Gold Rush happened here long ago and the place was decimated and is still recovering. Fires pass through these areas and are often back burned to reduce ground fuel.(I don't agree with this practice entirely) You can see that fire passed through this area in the picture.

Basically took about 20 steps into the area and started to find pockets blanketed in Drosera whittakeri. Like this:

Some just about to flower:

**After taking some of the above pictures I knelt down and there was a large native wasp in the crease behind my knee. It stung the shit out of me, I swore at it, killed it and carried on. It felt like a hot needle in my leg for about 5 minutes. Oh yeah!!!***
Another one in flower from another spot about 50 metres away:

The cool thing about finding that Drosera means that the other common species would likely be around. I was right and it was. This is Drosera peltata, which elongates and grows to about 100mm high. It's not flowering yet, but should be in a few weeks. I'll go back.

Native Orchids. I found 3 in flower and a few more just starting to grow leaves that I hope to capture later.
Pterostylis nutans or, Nodding Greenhood. Sits about 100mm high:

Pterostylis nana or, Dwarf Greenhood:

And lastly for today. Diuris pardina or, Leopard Orchid. Not easy to capture as they're very small and the stalks move in the slightest breeze:

Hope you enjoy the pictures. Now go outside and get into nature.

Hi Karode13, Awesome start to the thread. I love all the tiny things the scrub has to offer. Keep it coming I should have started a thread like this, but instead just posted in the SA 2015 thread, but they all seem to love it. Check it out if you get a chance. You might be able to id my drocera sp.

Do the orchids survive through fires, or is their habitat untouched?
Nvm. I didn't know orchids were so resilient.

Good first post to look at when I awaken in the morning old bloke I absolutely love Drosera, and we have several species here as well.
I know you said it's winter there, but it doesn't seem cold. Are you winters like here in Florida, where it still warm all winter long,or does it get bitterly cold?
Anyway, you have inspired me to go photograph some of the cool native plants that reside here, and a soon as I get paid, and can get some new batteries for my camera and beer,I'm going to do just that

I'm pretty sure your Drosera is the same as the one pictured here, or one quite similar. Some cool pictures too. Enjoyed the wildflowers.

You should post some of the ones in your region, I'd love to see them and look forward to your thread. Winters here can get extreme in higher altitudes but it's pretty mild compared to some other countries. It got down to like -4C for a few weeks at night but is usually above 0C for most of the time. I live in a very dry region now, as you might be able to tell from the picture of the bush I posted. A few weeks back I went mushroom hunting in a place about an hour South of me and it started snowing, which was a little strange and stopped the hunting so we could throw snowballs at each other.
Here's the pics to prove it happened.

It's so nice to see Eucalyptus forest vibrant with undergrowth. Eucalyptus globulus, grown for pulp, is the main tree species here in Portugal and is practically barren underneath.

The one grown in Portugal is called Blue gum over here. It's common and is known for its coppicing ability.
Most of the Tall Eucalyptus forests have bracken or other under story. Others don't. Here's some early mid Winter pictures of different, more moist forest.

I have three of the five types of Drosera that grow in Florida in my area,I just need to get out and find them. I always found them when I lived in North Florida, and I should have gotten a few specimens.
I'm going to go and spend all day looking for cool plants, and I'll start up my thread,on my next day off I don't get paid for a while, and who needs beer anyway
So,I reckon it does get pretty cold in your neck of the woods, and I'm glad to say I will never have to look at snow again! I detest cold weather with a passion!

Lovely (even if it reminds me that rain and cold are a couple of months away...)

That bush was littered with them Rafiikii. It was very foggy and was hard to take pictures before the gear got fogged up. I don't really target these anymore because they're so easy to find I'd rather spend my time looking for rarer things. If I happen upon them in the process, well that's a bonus.
@LSoares: The season's are a changin'. The weather's been turning down here over the last few days. The sun's out more and the temperature is rising. Still cool at night but not long until Spring and the cactus wake up.
