Inhibit mold on the substrate
    #22107141 - 08/18/15 03:15 PM (8 years, 5 months ago)

If I dissolve salt in water and spray my substrate with it, will it inhibit mold without damaging the mycelium?

No. Mold cannot be cured. Once you have it, you have it. Its contaminated and needs to get thrown out.

What I mean is "inhibit", increase the PH level of the casing to prevent mold spores from germinating.

I'm trying to use salt as a substitute for lime as a PH buffer.

So you want to use it as prevention then?

If so, there shouldn't be a need. Fully colonized substrate is already contam resistant.

You can pour salt over a developing Trichoderma colony to keep it from sporulating in that area. It'll usually pop up somewhere else on the substrate eventually.
