6 quart dub tub grow

I spawned my leftover grain jars (grains were dunked for 15 min) from my monotub grow to a mini tub on the 2nd. After it colonized for 8 days, I introduced the tub to fruiting conditions. I drilled 6 small holes on the top tub and stuffed with polyfill. I also drilled two larger holes on the short sides and stuffed loosely with polyfill. Temps in my room are 80-84f (it's been a brutally hot summer). I have a window fan running most of the day. How does it look to you guys so far, I've never seen this much primordia on the surface before!! Hopefully I will be getting a strong pinset!

looking good bro I got a few of these in the works right now do you feel your getting adequate FAE with the way you set up your holes? I haven't done my holes yet and was looking for some advice i'venever done a dub tub before just monos

I've had success in the past with putting just four half inch holes in the tup tub stuffed with polyfill. I figured adding more holes this time would supply enough FAE throughout the first flush, so I don't have to fan as much, just set and forget. But I've been fanning more often, now that I see some mini pins popping through the surface (major pinning trigger).
I haven't misted since I first fruited it which was like four days ago. IME too much misting damages the primordia and slows pinning, so I just keep the top tub misted all the time, the sub will have enough moisture to support a good first flush.
My last dub tub:

cool man thanks for the info and i'm with ya I don't mist during primordial and early pinning either here are the 6qts im gonna try dub tubs with if they colonize as its an experiment with cold pasteurized straw the grains are starting to recover after 14 hours so im hopeful

WOW thats a lot of straw!! Do you have manure in there too, I would think the mycelium would have a hard time colonizing that.

nope straight straw I had leftover from cold water pasteurization of straw for my first blue oyster grow here's the link if your interested http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/22104283 from past experience cubes do fine on plain straw and to stack the deck in my favor I used a 1-1 spawn ratio but im not sure how well cubes will do on cold pasteurized straw...but we'll see

Buddha!
Good luck on your grow, man. I'll enjoy the updates. Nice shrooms!

Thanks man! I'll be updating tomorrow morning, hopefully new pins pop up, it's been about 6 days since I fruited it.

Is six days a long time?

That's average IMO, sometimes it takes a bit longer for the mycelium to finish colonizing the inside of the tub, before pinning is initiated. Anyways, here is the tub right now. Pinning has just started!

Nice pins!! I'm excited to follow this grow. I grow almost exclusively in 6qt dubtubs and I'm still trying to dial in my holes.

Thanks! My first grows were from tubs this size. I like the fact that I can make multiple mini grows and not use all my grain jars for a monotub that might not turn out well due to unclean spawn/genetics. I'd rather take some nice clones from this tub and spawn another monotub to get fruits with better genetics, than a tub full of MS fruits. Seems like a more efficient use of my grain jars.
I keep the top holes on the side loosely packed with polyfill and the lower holes tightly stuffed, just like you would do with a regular size mono.
And I make sure to fan it out at least 3 times a day now that I see pins popping thru. I don't mist, because I feel that the sub should have more than enough moisture to support a good flush (grains were dunked when spawning) and also I don't want to overmist and damage the primordia/pins on the surface. It's better to just wait and let the tub do its thing!!

I do lots of minidubs myself, and I agree 100% with your technique. I tape mine together and they aren't messed with at all until harvest. I've never had to mist.
I've never used straw in a minidub and since someone already used I made this post

i'm doing the same thing, my first grow! so i'm greener than a leaf. I just started geting primordia pins yesterday. I've never dialed in a tub or know what it should look like. I noticed the condensation evaporated like a day and a half ago, but I didn't mist anything yet. because i'm kinda worried to mess it up if it doesnt need misting. I also havent been fanning. I just let it sit and i'm observing, i'm kinda worried there appears to be no moisture.

Fanning is necessary, since you don't want too much built up CO2, because the tub is in the fruiting phase. Also make sure to punch some holes in the top tub (stuffed with polyfill) to provide some much needed FAE. I only misted my tub once, when I put it into fruiting, and then kept the top tub very moist.
