About to be a hobo. Don't know what to do

I've gotten myself in quiet the pickle. I thought I had a solid career thing going on for me in the near future but it sort of fell through.
Any advice regarding the following warrants my complete gratitude.
I couldn't pay rent this month, lost my job I thought I had lined up. There are plenty o people who would take me in but I don't want to burden them. I want to benefit everyone in my life, and not be a problem for them so this makes it hard for me to ask about couch crashing. I'd feel like shit if I crashed in someone's pad for more than a week.
I will have a contract come up for me in Asia hopefully within a month or three. I gotta keep my credit card clean to make the move when that does happen but for now I'm probably about to hit the streets.
I don't know what to do or where to go though. There is a small woodsy patch not far from where I am, but the shit-head kids who go through and all over there are known for harassing homeless who used to live there so the "residents" of that area all left (probably means it's not a good place for me to set up camp).
I got a couple weeks left here before I gotta figure things out so I'm just selling everything. Totally jumped the gun. Anyone here have experience roughing it on the streets? what should I do?/where do I go? I used to be in these pickles a lot as a younger gent hanging out with the sail-punk community of northern Maine, but I was always with people who were more connected than I and now those connections are far gone.
I'm one part worried because I gotta look cleaned up for Skype interviews and need a charged phone for when that happens. On the other hand, I figure if I meet some people I could try to benefit them with whatever knowledge I got, while learning a thing or two about living on little. I dunno, just need to keep chill and abide; take er easy and all.

Buy a used RV on craigslist for 800$, buy 2 acres, live there and save your money.
I've done it. Saved 50,000$ a year for 4 years

Why not stay with someone you know and do work for them or something as rent. Like clean their house everyday, take care of their lawn, etc. Just make yourself as scarce as possible to them so they don't get sick of you. If I had a buddy who needed help I wouldnot hesitate to let them stay with me for a little bit as long as they helped out. I actually had someone do this a few years ago. I had to kick him out after a few weeks though because he was a slob and would stay out til the middle of the night then bang on our door to let him in. If he was respectful and helped out though I wouldn't mind him staying longer.
I'm sorry your going through this. And I'm sorry I don't have more information about living on the streets and what not. Just be safe and I hope you get through this. Sending good thoughts your way.

Despite being 25, I don't have a license. I was so caught up in academics/work that I never got time to get one, so I don't have a car. I was gonna go for my license when I got overseas but until then I'm sort of boned.
I am a clean person, and very unintrusive. My roommate is saying that I could stay if I wanted to but I'd feel like an ass not paying rent, although I'm the one who keeps the house clean and such. Don't drink or smoke much these days, just trip when I have the resources available but even that is still seldom.

You should stay. It sounds like your room mate probably appreciates your help. You can always pay him for back rent later if it feels like the right thing to do and you are in a financial situation to do so

Try and increase your credit card limit. I lived in motels for a week when my apartment wasn't ready i was pretty happy to have more money available. An extra 500 bucks can be a motel for few weeks. Good luck

I know I should probably do that to keep things easy for me, but I'm worried about when my food budget is going to plummet to nothing as well. I don't want to be eating all his food too. It's another part of this struggle to make it by for a few months for when this career does somehow take off. If it were just another month or something it wouldn't be a big deal, but I'm stuck in some uncertainty right now, and he is moving out in about 2 months anyway. It's like I have too much time to survive off of, but too little time to get myself set up in something sustainable.
I went dumb about this career thing as well. I had to spend $300 to get the papers I needed all set up, then sent them out to this agency to help me out, but I guess from what people have told me is that I should have gotten a job first, then sent the documents out and now I can't afford to have them re-done. There is a chance that I'll hear about this career thing very soon, as some people have said they got to head over very quickly... on the other hand some people more recently have said that they end up waiting for months.

I wish I knew a motel to go to. I'm stuck in the greater Boston area right now, and MA is needlessly expensive

Let your friends help you - there's no shame in that. You certainly don't want to end up living under a bridge somewhere.

Have you looked into WWOOF'ing or workaway? These are good short term solutions while trying to figure things hour. 5 hours of work a day in exchange for room and board is usually the deal.

I've got a very close friend that lives out of her van and she said it's incredibly liberating.
Shoot me a PM if you need any help friend.
Best of luck!

It shouldn't be too hard to get by in the Boston area around this time of year. You'll be homeless for a few months?
Look into intentional communities and volunteer programs that provide room and board.
Post an ad on craigslist seeking living arrangements as a caretaker. Volunteer programs and Caretaker positions are your best bet if you're determined to not receive help from friends.
I'd personally ask my friends for help. I've helped all my friends in some form or another, and I expect a good portion of them would help me in my time of need. If you have skills and knowledge to help them, offer your services. It doesn't have to be immediate, but you can always pay them back when possible.

You know, I've always loved this sort of thing, and can't believe that I totally forgot about it; although I considered it in the past. I find sustainable agriculture very important, and beneficial to future goals. Maybe I can look into seeing what is available in the country I was going to move to so I can start myself off there and then just transition to that job when that happens. This would solve my need to be housed, fed, and be useful all at the same time

That's another incentive to getting my license haha. I planned on using my career to pay off my student debt and then save up to do a van-life or tiny-house life. I'll send you a pm to say hi!

I don't want to start something that I might have to ditch at a moments notice. I know that working at a McD or BK isn't going to contribute to my resume anyway, but I definitely wouldn't be able to afford a place to live doing that (especially in MA). So I'd just be doing unfulfilling work while still having to live in a box or something.
Last time I tried to apply at a McD near where I am living while I was trying to find work, they told me I was overqualified . I don't know what that means exactly but when I got my other job, things were great until they had to lay a ton of people off, including me

It sounds as though you are lookong for something specific occupationally (asia?) And thus might actually be employable for a hobo. Go to rinky-dink gas stations, mcDonalds, etc. Aim low, put your best foot forward, lie lie lie, and grind. Every little bit of income helps.
You sound like you're throwing in the towel.

Mayhaps. I think I'm just banking too much on one thing. I'm extremely employable as a teacher for the English language... or credential's say so. I'm trying to get my foot in the door so I have paid exp. as a teacher and not just volunteer stuff/certifications under my belt. I have a girlfriend waiting for me over in the country I'm trying to get to though and I don't want to disappoint her and end up in a different (easier) country instead. I feel that if I can tough it out a wee bit longer then I might be in good shape. The uncertainty of the wait is what is killing me. I got myself all set up to leave by next month, and then things got tossed in the air so I'm in recon right now until I get things figured. I might try to cast my net wider though and see what I pull up.

You have TESOL? TEFL? I was applying for China a little under a year ago.
ANY ESL program near you welcomes volunteers. I volunteered for about a year before applying and had a LOT of university prospects. If you don't have experience/certification, expect to work for a cram school and work your way up.
Seriously, slow down and do things right, if you can. You have, what, 50 years left on your lifeline? Start with basics: job and shelter. Then get experience and reunite with your female. :P stop living for tomorrow while life passes you by.
If you don't mind homelessness (could build character), or REALLY don't want a minimum wage job, then you do you. We're all here and hope life gets easier for you, brother.
FYI, teaching overseas is going to be fucking hard. Do you speak their language? Rosetta stone is EASY to pirate (not that people do that)

I have a CELTA and a degree in English/Asian studies. I don't speak the language of the country I'm trying to go to though.
I wanted to go to Cambodia, I know some khmer and people around there but my student debt won't let me sadly.
Meanwhile, my special lady friend is working illegally in the country she is in, and I want to get there to help make her life easier.
As for the homeless part, I sort of prefer to do it to help people I meet and to learn to live in harder times (with the benefit of not burdening my family and friends). I figure I've made a lot of mistakes getting to where I am, and could use my knowledge to help people accomplish their goals without getting in as much debt as I did. Also know how to write a killer resume. It would be more fulfilling to me than flipping burgers.
