Does anyone else encounter this? Almost every job theres always a Supervisor or 2 that insist on being called sir.
I'm sorry but calling you sir is not going to happen. You are not Royalty, you have not been knighted. So who the fuck are you? Some fat rich white dude with a power struggle hard on...gtfo
Had to go to HR once since I refused to call this slob sir. Did not loose my job

yeah, being respectful to a boss is kinda expected, but calling someone expecting to be called sir is an overkill. He should get a cheap hooker if he wants to hear that while fucking people

I'm not narcissistic enough to understand the satisfaction one gets from insistently being addressed as "sir" or "ma'am" by their employees. It has to be an overrated feeling, like a buffet

I had this boss, he was straight from Russia..with no love..lol anyways I was like 20 ish and he would just point at things and grunt kinda..found him very rude, over time he softened up and it turned out he designed the whole section of the facility that was set for anodizing these computer parts. He was smart as fuck and knew a lot about different things. I think he was bitter that they sent him to oversea the construction and then left him there.lol
lol LFD .. sounds too official

It would totally depend on how many dollars per hour it was worth.

I mean, I say yes sir/m'am all the time and occasionally salute, but that usually just because I'm feeling spunky.
I've never even had a boss that wanted to be addressed as mr/miss last name, Even mr/miss seems really weird and dated, like something I'd expect out of a secretary in the '60's.
Obviously I'd call them whatever the fuck they wanted, I've put up with much worse - but still reminds me of Kevin Spacey's character in Horrible Bosses.
Then again, I don't work in a corporate environment(..but still.) but I've worked for larger companies where I interacted with upper management pretty frequently because of my job responsibilities and I always called them by their first name.

In public interactions, I generally refer to adult men as "sir." It's a sign of respect. Respect is something that is clearly lacking in today's millennials.

I address strangers as sir and m'am frequently, actually, usually when I'm trying to get their attention or am going up to them to ask a question - I say excuse me, please, thankyou(and those ones go for everyone obviously). I live in the Bos-Washington corridor, and while it's not that unusual, people move fast, and pleasantries take up time
But when the situation is more personal I call people by their first names, it feels kind of juvenile to me to use mr/miss, and all the bosses boss I've interacted with came around frequently enough to make the situation more casual, I just followed their cues. Now, idk about bosses bosses bosses, where you may interact with them very little and maybe only at more formal work events, those guys showed up once or twice to watch our shows(I work in live entertainment) to assess things and make sure that the production was successful enough to be worth the time and money to keep it running. I would probably refrain from using their first name, but I'd still feel awkward about it.
