Boy have I learned a lot about cellphones today. Lots of reading, but I still have unanswered questions.
(Phones a CDMA S6 US Cellular)
I got ripped off through a Craigslist deal. Met with the guy, checked out the phone, made calls from the phone. Everything worked fine so we exchanged money for phone and I was on my way.
Later after I had factory restored it I tried to activate it and the rep told me the phone couldn't be activated wasn't supported anymore yada yada. After some research I'm guessing the guy must have reported it stolen as soon as we parted ways.
With a blacklisted MEID/ESN I can't sell the phone on ebay without taking a loss, which unfortunately is looking like it might go down that way.
So on to my question. After a bunch of reading online I found a program called CDMA Tool, which allows you to change a phones MEID/ESN.
1.) Can I use my old phones clean ESN and put that into the new phone?
2.) If so is it legal? Should I care?
3.) Would it have to be from the same carrier? My old phone is Verizon, new one is US Cellular. Both use CDMA.
4.) Any other suggestions?
I'll appreciate any feedback, even if its not what I'm hoping to hear. Thanks for reading!

best bet is to report him to the cops or if you actually want something done about him ripping you off find where he lives and rob him back... that tool you are looking into is probably the same one I was looking into a while back, you have to pay per phone and it's very fucking expensive for just one phone, it's really only good if you flash a lot of phones for people and get paid to do it...
but I could be wrong, maybe I missed something, I got burned on an iphone a while back and was trying to find a way to make it usable, I think it was like $75 to use the tool to flash one phone and like $100 for 4 flashes, either way, for me it wasn't worth it for an iphone 4 with a broken screen I ended up stuck with.
The lesson I got was never take a phone from a junkie as collateral, the damn thing was active and I really thought he was coming back, fucking junkies. I tried to return the fucking thing to this kids dad and get my $10 back, in the end my liltle sister said she wanted it to play games on so she paid the $10 for a new screen and I gave it to her, I just wish I could have activated it under some prepay service for her
