^i think FF8 is amazing....
FF9 is great especially if you like the old school feel (not very futuristic or anything like FF7 and FF8)
I think FFX is when it starts to change a bit (but still really like FFX)
Still i think 6, 7, 8, 9, and Xenogears are all insanely good.

Have you ever taken the time to breed a gold chocobo? On one runthrough when i was maybe 14 or 15, i got all caught up in chocobo racing and breeding for long enough to kinda lose interest in finishing out the game.

yup. you have to if you wanna get the second Master Summon/Command materias edit. forgot you don't need to raise one once you kill ruby. its still worth doing though imo
it went pretty quick for me though. took about 3 hours for the gold. its really straightforward with a guide
it actually took longer for me to get the 'sneak attck' and 'magic counter' materias from the chocobo racing rewards. its random, and ended up taking pretty much a whole evening of playing to get both.

Yeah I've never understood the hate for FF8. That shit was ballin. I don't know how anyone could get to the Garden War and not think "Holy shit this is fucking cool". Honestly I think a modern remake of FF8 might even be better than a remake of FF7 if only because of how incredibly rapidly the tone of the game shifts from 'serious business continental scale war' to 'scifi apocalyplse' once you cross the Horizon Bridge. Would be awesome seeing that with the kind of graphical firepower available to devs today. Plus I personally feel the technology in FF8 was much more interesting then the stuff in any of the other FFs. The gunblade would be such a vicious weapon since (as I imagine it) the trigger pulls fire concussive shells and would presumably cause massive trauma as it carves into flesh....the Galbadian Prison escape (Zell using dat Janitor knowledge to sneak around snapping necks and otherwise brutally maiming/killing people with his bare hands in glorious HD), the Lunatic Pandora, the Lunar Cry, Esthar, The Gardens...

Also, since this threads seems to have kind of devolved into a 'old playstation games that people should definitely fucking play' thread. Here is my addition
The Suikoden series is easily one of my favorite all-time RPG series. Bit too to write out a proper description but from wiki
Quote:
Each individual game in the series centers on relative themes of politics, corruption, revolution, mystical crystals known as True Runes and the "108 Stars of Destiny"—the 108 protagonists who are loosely interpreted from the source material.
Essentially, each game follows the plot formula of a coup d'état by corrupt power holder(s) and the main protagonist is an exile from his/her home. The plot also follows the disastrous misuse of the "True Runes" while the hero struggles, despite overwhelming odds, to bring peace to the land alongside his/her friends, and the climactic showdown with the corrupted True Rune incantation.
The 27 True Runes are powerful sources of all magic and primal forces in the world of Suikoden. Wholly sentient and possessing their own will, the True Runes holds immeasurable power, and are the equivalents of gods in the Suikoden world. Many wars have been fought over them in the past, some instigated by the will of the runes themselves. True Runes are often sought by the powerful and influential due to their shared property of granting immortality to those who will bear them. All bearers of True Runes stop aging and become immune to disease and all other natural causes of death, though they can still die from physical trauma such as accidents or murder. The True Runes often attach themselves to living beings. Doing so gives the True Rune holder great power over the force the rune represents as well as immortality so long as they wield the rune. Wielding the runes can also have negative consequences, as in the case of one wielder being transformed into a vampire. A True Rune has also taken the shape of a sword, as is the case with the Star Dragon Sword. They can also manifest themselves unattached from a host,
I'd highly recommend Suikoden 1, 2, 3, and 5 (1 and 2 on PS1, 3 and 5 are on PS2) if you're fond of somewhat darker RPGs. Features lots of things like villages being put to the torch and the inhabitants butchered or someone using one of the 'True Runes' to turn a thriving town on a lake into a desolate, poor, sun-beaten shithole. The occasional main character death. Parents fighting sons and sister against brother. That sorta thing.

the garden war? holy shit. everything about it was exhilerating. there was no event in any other final fantasy before this, as far as i'm concerned, that were as engaging as the Balamb VS Galbadia part of the game
and the events leading up to it are awesome too.

Indeed. I actually thought Seifer was a pretty fuckin cool character too. The multiple duels between him and Squall in HD when both are explicitly stated in-game to be some of the most incredibly talented warriors that Balamb Garden had ever trained...hnnng. I sit through the intro fight scene every time I boot the game up, so imagining it remade is a pretty pleasing thought.Quote:

3 was actually my first one. Loved the shit out of it so I played the first two and loved em. I liked 4, but it just couldn't compare to the quality of the remainder. V was amazing too, though it took me awhile to stop being annoyed at the appearance of the main character. IIRC Tierkreis was made by a different studio, though I may be wrong. I only played it for maybe an hour and a a half before getting bored of it. Was super bummed to find out they disbanded the developer team.

Thats almost exactly my character lineup from Suikoden. Though I'd swap in Tengaar, Clive, Pesmerga, and Crowley fairly often as well. Was pretty mindblown when I played Suikoden 1 and 2 and found out that Luc was a good guy considering I'd played 3 first.

4 was my first, oddly enough. then i played 1, 2, 5, tactics(which i returned a few days later) and eventually 3. then i played tierkries a jailbroken PSP. thankfully i didnt have to pay for it, cause i did not enjoy that game
i like all of the main titles so much though. it pains me to see konami ignoring the series

pesmerga is a beeeast. i was EXTREMELY dissappointed that he wasnt a character in suiko3, yet Yuber was
Pesmerga and Yuber are awesome... but they need eachother
i also never got clive (and by extention, never got all 108 stars) in suiko 2. i know i can, but the game is so relaxing. its hard to finish clives quest within 20 hours

Indeed. I wish we got more of Yuber's backstory. Nothing is really shared on either him or Pesmerga other than that both are black knights and that Pesmerga is hunting Yuber...and iirc that Yuber explicitly states that he's not human and implies that the eightfold rune he has is a true rune. There are so many badass characters in the Suikoden games. when I was playing 3 for the first time and came across the Gym Trainer guy that forces you to work out with him.

I beat emerald and ruby but I used something called debugging mode where I got all the best materia, and everything. I basically just raped them both using knights of the round materia over and over again infinitely.
FF7 advent children was a bawse ass movie and I can't wait for the ff7 remake.
I love this track from the game.

Still got nightmares

Brilliant piece.
