I'd rather a sedentary person take aikido or karate than just sit on the couch. I'm not OK with giving people false confidence with phoney martial arts.
Krav Maga would be far more useful for actual self defense.
I'd practice it as a physical meditative art.

I am curious, why Aikido?
Because I enjoy it. I trained in Kempo as a kid and wanted to get back into martial arts. In researchin martial arts, I narrowed it down to Ju Jutsu, Hapkido, and Aikido. I found a teacher teaching Ju Jutsu in the town I was in, but he wasn't able to attract a large enough class to keep a space and quit teaching. When he told me, he told me about an aikido class in the area. I went and started training and loved it. I've never looked back.

Asante, consider studying tai chi. Its a slow movement type exercise, meditative and can also be used for self defense.
