Interesting video. Here's a video of my sensei giving a demonstration back in 2002

Listen to Chris asante...there's never a perfect time to start doing something you think will be hard. Jump in. Just don't buy into any chi bullshit along the way lol. One good tip I could offer is that if there isn't any sparring, regardless of the style, you are wasting your time.

Nice. What kind of training do you do? BJJ or mixed?
I can see how people can think that a more traditional non competitive martial art isn't worthwhile, but for me it's really about training in a beautiful art that I enjoy. I've trained in kempo and ju jutsu in the past, but I much prefer Aikido training. I guess I'm not a very competitive minded person and I appreciate the attitude of my aikido training partners compared with the types of attitudes I've met with in other training situations.
My first sensei was a police officer who had a lot of experience with using aikido in the field. My current sensei used to teach hand to hand combat in the Vietnamese army. I think they qualify as professionals but maybe not in the sense that you mean.

I think something is better than nothing. I'd rather a sedentary person take aikido or karate than just sit on the couch. I'm not OK with giving people false confidence with phoney martial arts. No one could ever wristlock a person with the slightest bit of experience in boxing/muay Thai/ jiu jitsu.

It's a shame you are trying to turn this into that kind of thread. It seems like we can never have a nice discussion about martial arts without everyone whipping their cock out to compare size.

I've been grappling for 7 or 8 years at least once a day but I've focused very hard on my standup for the past 2-3. I really wish I could meet up with everyone who trains on here.

Thanks brother. I respect your dedication to your training. I train 5 days a week and would train more if there were more classes offered.

NCM, that is an impressive video. You can imagine how much strength it would take to pick those big guys up and toss them around like that. I know the skeptics will say they were just jumping to make him look good but if you watch it carefully you see him many times making them go in the opposite direction they were headed. It was not strength it was chi. It also takes correct technique, focus and relaxation as I said. Does anyone here think they would be able to beat that guy in a real contest or situation?
Here is another video showing chi being used. Its not as dramatic as the one you posted but its good
As I said previously, no one style is dominant or all the students would go with that style. What is common to all is that the good practitioners use chi even if they don't call it that or even if they say chi does not exist. Chi is not a religion its force, a property of nature. Through relaxation, focus and correct tec, it flows. The people who try to do everything by strength only get so far. Everyone has chi but it takes training to be able to use it correctly.
I'm not going to talk about my own experiences with it. I have talked to people who worked with the masters and told about demonstrations. One story was he would get people to line up each touching the next, tell which one he would make fall down, touch the first one and the 6th one would fall just as he said. The guy said he did it on him and he fell down too. I asked what it was like and could he resist it. He said it was like trying to resist gravity.

See, that's the kinda shit that gets people hurt. If that demonstration really worked it could be done with the people wearing headphones and blindfolds but it doesn't. Knocking guys down without touching them only works on brainwashed students man.

So you think the demo was all fake? How did he do it then? And what has that to do with headphones and blindfolds? Go to a aikido dojo and tell them you think its fake and want a demonstration on you. Tell them you have trained a lot and are there to show them how foolish they are. They may give you a demo, they won't get mad, or you should hope they won't. It might be wiser to be a tiny bit humble about it or they might twist your wrist an extra bit after dumping you on the ground just so you remember the lesson.
Those guys in ncm's video did not just fall off the turnip truck, they each had a black belt and could do to you what he did to them unless you are as good as you think you are. Most people aren't.

Nah but for real man that's rad. Ive seen you put in the dedication and work, you deserve that praise.

I did some dojo storming when I started out. It's super rude. I've already trained everywhere within an hour of my house and settled on the gyms I train at now. I am as good as I think- I'm working on fighting professionally. No one has ever hit a standing wristlock in mma ever.
Again, I'm proud of you Chris! It sounds like it took a decade to earn your black belt which is how it should be. It's just that there is so much bullshit out there and Ive had broken bones and bled to get good so its hard not to throw my 2 cents in. I'll try to quit arguing and leave it at that. Congratulations!
