karode13 said: Make cuttings with a sterile blade. Once you've done your cuttings you then leave them somewhere with good air flow, out of the sun/shaded area and wait for the ends to callus. Leave space around the cut ends so air can move by, if you don't they can get mould or rot. After a few days the ends will dry and then over the next couple of weeks the scab will harden and a callus will form. You need to allow the callus tissue to form before planting into soil, as it seals the end.
Alternatively, you can take your cuttings and place the fresh cut ends in front of a fan to speed the drying process up. You still need to allow a couple of weeks for callus tissue to form before planting. This method just dries the ends out quicker.
Perfect, and this is about what my research lead me to, I just wanted to make sure there was not anything else I could do.
Thank you, the information is much appreciated,

I'm buying a few bridgesii cacti next month, I have heard nothing but good things about trichocereus bridgesii regardless of the brand or vendor, so I'm thinking that's my next move.
bridgesii is where it's at.
I had some pedro and bridge indoors underneath 150watt HPS, they did fairly well. But best thing is let them go dormant in winter, as someone said above. I only had 2 foot long cuttings underneath it though, so the light was kept rather close to the plants to encourage proper growth.
Can you buy a low watt HID kit for supplemental lighting, or is that out of the question?
Depends on the cost, I actually have some top.of the line lights in storage, I live in Colorado, everybody grows marijuana out here, I quit growing marijuana (because you can buy it at any local store) and began to buy cacti, ACRB/MHRB, caapi and PHS, and began to accumulate mushroom growing materials...any way, I have 3 1000W high pressure sodium boxes, complete with balasts, fans, and rigging gear left over from my marijuana growing, do you think these would do the trick? Maybe one 1000W bulb box for the 2 trichs?
I really don't have much space so I have been trying to avoid having to bring the high pressure sodium set-up in, but if it will provide a better grow, I would rather try to set up the lights I have rather than buy more...
I also have 4 lophophora williamsii and one lophophora williamsii ceaspitosa that are etiolated...

Any advice there?

Get butcher knife paper tower isopropyl alcohol 70% ruler a small desk fan
Step1: moisten a paper towel with alcohol Step2: wipe down your blade Step3:Cut the long arm pup from the main column at A)where it connects to the column at the connection b) a few inches above that, and cut it straight across Step4: Repeat Step1 and Step2 Step5: Lay down the cactus arm, and put the ruler next to it. Cut at 8-10" Step6: Repeat Step1 and Step2 Step7: Measure and Cut next 8-10" piece Step8: Repeat Step1 and Step2 Step9: Measure and Cut next 8-10" piece
Repeat, repeat, repeat until done Cutting.
Step10: Leave them standing or laying out to callous for 3 weeks. Out of direct sun.
I WOULD FIRST MEASURE THE WHOLE ARM, AND THEN DIVIDE IT EVENLY INTO AS MANY pieces. If they come out a little longer or a little shorter it is ok. Do not cut them less than 6" they will take a while. Step5:

Thank you,
I have been putting this off because I'm afraid I'm going to kill the arm, I'm fairly new to cacti cultivation, and while I have general information in some areas, I'm lacking information in others, and I'm completely lacking in experience regarding these procedures...but this is out of control, I have to do something with it, and fairly soon.
Thank you again! The information you have already provided is very much appreciated.
Do you know of a website with step by step instructions and photographs to follow along with? Or any other photo references regarding how to handle the arm?

Cut it like you would cut a piece of wood. Use the knife, and measure your sections. I gave you step by step instructions. I don't know of photo tutorials, because I just jumped in and did it. They are very forgiving plants. Don't water with soft callous.
