For awhile now I've known I am Introverted and Perceiving, but it's always been up in the air if I was either Sensing/Intuitive or Feeling/Thinking respectively.
I just found this site (www.cognitiveprocesses.com) which seems to be the most informative and best laid out one that I've come across.
Going with what I've read on that site about how the MBTI works it appears that I am likely INFP. Is that a good one? Am I special?

I think it's silly to put much significance on a classification system that divides personality types into four groups. It is far more complex than that IMO.

I don't feel like I am necessarily "service oriented" or "interested in people", though...
does that mean I'm not INFP anymore?

There are a few more rare types out of the 16 typologies: http://www.myersbriggs.org/my-mbti-personality-type/my-mbti-results/how-frequent-is-my-type.htm But I would caution you that the Kiersey.com and a few of the knock-off tests are NOT accurate. I've been administering the MBTI since 1980 and I know my own type since then which has consistently been the same over my lifespan (as it should be). So when I take one of these facsimile tests I have a pretty solid base to compare their results with.

The MBTI has its associated statistical studies which illustrate the percentages of various professions that the 16 types tend to go into. So whatever one or two word descriptors anyone is taking from these knock-off tests is absurdly reductionistic. I cannot post copyrighted psychological material, but in the MBTI manual, the top dozen professions are listed by percentage as:
20.59% Physician, Psychiatrist 16.61% Editors, reporters 16.42% Research assistants 16.35% Writers, artists, entertainers & agents, misc. 15.38% Journalists 14.68% Psychologist 13.92% Religion: Educator, all denominations 13.88% Social Scientists 13.58% Writers and journalists 12.98% Consultants: education 12.56% Clinical laboratory technologists and technicians 12.45% Counselors: General
There are hundreds of professions listed with the very last being 0% of Operations and systems researchers and analysts, and the second to last being Police and detectives at .65%
There are a number of sites that do not correspond with the manual that I have, and new careers are available in the computer age (the manual I have is 1985), but the new careers would no doubt be distributed among the technical careers. There are new sites, but they cannot claim the validity or reliability variables that the MBTI can. Example of a similar but non-clinical report: http://www.personalitypage.com/html/INFP_car.html

I just used this one: http://www.humanmetrics.com/cgi-win/jtypes2.asp, and I thought it was accurate all the way around. I'm an INTJ.

Haha. The career test I took in HS said I should become a detective.
Not like I really knew myself well enough back then to be able to properly answer self inquiry, though.

I'm a purist. I remain in the Isabelle Myers-Briggs camp.

I just know my fiance got that and I've taken sooo many of the tests throughout the years and have remained a INFJ.
You may not want to help people now but perhaps later on in life. People fluctuate all the time and one day it dawns on them to do something completely unexpected. Whatever you want in life, don't think it's wrong because of a test.

We are not determined from the womb by the systematic intoxification of embryos as the classes were in Huxley's Brave New World to create drone-like workers (unless our mothers were alcoholics or drug addicts during our gestation). Nevertheless, various typologists, such as William Herbert Sheldon, have convinced me of the nature of the constitutional determinants of our behavior. I 'might' have made it through the school and training to become a surgeon, but I would not have become an excellent surgeon, and there ought to be nothing but excellence in that field. My typology would tend to marvel at the inner workings of human anatomy in rapt wonder rather than to focus laser-like on the business at hand while acting swiftly and decisively lest the patient die from hemorrhage and shock. Conversely, I might force myself to work construction, but I do not have the body type, physical strength or stamina for prolonged heavy labor. Temperamentally, I cannot tolerate taking orders from far less logical people in positions of authority. Knowing these things and more about my typology and corresponding physical constitution guided me into a field that utilized my intellectual and emotional aspects over physical aspects, both subtle and gross. I was very fortunate to have found a niche that fit me well rather than one in which I had to conform or work counter to my values.

Awesome. What field do you work in? And just curious but do you look at your astrological chart makeup as well? I look mainly into the psychological part of it and know that many of the things they state aren't set in stone but could serve as an outline into possible interests for employment.
All this stuff just fascinates me mainly. Some can be spot on and some won't be even close.
