near a large tree (i think oak) from dark soil near Atlanta, Ga.
Gills: white pores
Stem: none visible
Cap: sort of like a trumpet i guess, like an inverted cone very thick and layered almost like a flower?
Spore print color: unknown Very important!
Bruising: unknown Color that the mushroom bruises, if any.

the next one was growing from mixed woodchips covering red clay near pines in south atlanta, Ga.
Light colored gills, with a semi-solid stem, not really hollow.
pink spores

the last one is some kind of enormous Ganoderma. looked to be growing directly from the soil, not sure what kind of trees were around
it was found in north atlanta, Ga
if anyone has a clue of the exact species and if it holds any medicinal value that would be appreciated

The second one is a Pluteus species. The first might be something like a Oligoporus or Bondarzewia, I'm not sure. Cool Ganoderma!

The brown lacquer and bright white underside suggest Applanatum as the species. Not sure though as I am no expert.
They are well known by the nomenclature "Artist's Conk" because the bright white underside bruises brown when touched, allowing people to etch designs into the porous surface.
Here's an example:

I would like to get a sample of your Ganoderma if you would be willing, it resembles a species from TN that I have been tracking down.

Excellent, I am trying to collect as many examples of this species as I can. I would like to send it to get it sequenced to compare with others we have found. Please let me know if you manage to find it again.

i've been out hunting but not around that spot. it actually might be a while before i can return as i'm about to be going out of state within the week. I'll check back when i can though, there were some young ones popping up around them previously so i'm sure something will remain
