I have tried and failed a 3 times with Loph seeds in the past, so over the past few months I've been getting set up properly. Loph seeds from Germany and Aus and assorted trich crosses and cultivars from AUS. Using 80W CFL and a heat mat. Couldn't have done it with out this forum and you guys, thanks

I've since added some tinted plastic on top of the propagator because some of the seedlings were red.

Congrats.
Have you put the seedling tray directly on top of the heat mat? Have you been misting regularly? What was your medium?
I'm asking because I think I've failed my first attempt. I have a feeling my heatmat has cooked my seeds or I haven't kept them moist enough. Nothing has grown, two weeks, not even mold or fungus.

The OP is in Winter currently so a heat mat isn't a bad idea, and is probably why he's having success this time.
Great stuff elborito. You'll soon have an army of them to keep you busy.

Wish i knew what i did wrong with my setup, i cant work it out. Hopefully my next lot of seeds comes through the mail with no issues, but its really a dice roll.

I ended up elevating the tray above the heat mat a few centimeters as the heat was too intense for the middle cells. I mist regularly and air them out, before they germinated I had some cob-wed mold, which a little bit of ground cinnamon sprinkled on top fixed. Medium was: 1 part cacti potting mix with large chunks sifted out. 1 part perlite 3 parts propagation sand.
Today.

I would maybe have spread them out a little more, the roots are TINY on the seedlings and if they get tangled up you could lose a few. Looking good though, I wasn't sure about the first set of pics as they all looked black on top, but the later shots look fantastic.
I have never used a heat mat and I live in the UK. They can handle cold temps, the desert gets freezing at night, so room temp should keep them happy enough. I always just use sand and fine grain gravel mix. Sprinkle seeds around on a baking tray or similar, cover with cling film/plastic wrap and mist every few days if they look too dry. Soon as they are big as the ones in your 2nd set of pics I transplant to small pots with the standard Loph medium (I add crushed terracotta pieces too).
The survival rate is pretty high after the first 3-4 weeks, so you are going to have a LOT if you keep looking after them. Nice work.

Thanks, I've been thinking about spreading out the trichs, it's just that all the cells are different species and crosses, except the whole last row which is all open hybrids from huge cactus garden in QLD.
