butt hurt crybaby military guy gives marines a bad name!

So im working as server at a scratch kitchen place and get a table of two couples. Apparently the guy is a marine and ask if we do military discounts and i knew we didnt so i told him no. He bull shits a little and says we did about a year ago and to talk to the manager. Our food is pretty cheap. Most expensive meal is like 15$ for ribs and a steak with two sides. Asking for a discount on our food is like asking for a discount on a $1 well..
Anyways, i tell the manager about it and he agrees that we will discount his food anyways. Didnt think it was necessary to tell him, i wanted to surprise him. Guy orders tenders and steak i believe and flags me over there awhile later. Tells me theres a hair in his food. Hell man, you can see a root in the hair and fat greasy finger print on the plate where he put the hair. Fucking dickbag puts a hair in his own food cause he was butthurt about the military discount.
So i tell the manager about it and hes like no big deal, just ring in another steak and tenders. So of course i ring it in and its gonna be another 15-20 minutes till its ready. Im maintainig my other tables and stuff and the guy starts to get agitated. He throws his arms up in the air at me one of the next times i walk into the dinning room. Im like look man, your food is on the way, be patient. We have to recook it.
I just wanted to tell this guy soo bad how much he was making the military look bad right now. Crying he didnt get a discount on a cheap as fuck meal and then putting hair in his own food, and acting aggressive towards the waiter. Its just retarded. Are all military people like that?

Just marines. Biggest f-n sissy-babies (no offense to sissies) that ever roamed the lands.
Tell them they get a 10% discount, but just charge an extra ten percent to the bill - idiots can't do math anyway.

I live in a place where we have a lot of military (navy, army, marines) and they all cause problems and cry/complain about everything. On holidays they all go out and get wasted and end up in jail or just embarrassing themselves. It makes me lose respect for military cause i know there are people who take it serious but you see the people who joined cause they are failing in life and still dont take it serious and expect everything handed to them. Its sad

I am a specialist in the army...and honestly I HATE the extra attention...it makes me feel weird. I never ask for discounts or anything of the sort. Except 1 time I did ask for the military free admission to a federal wildlife preserve to go hiking...but it was advertised free military. This guy wasn't military or if he was...its what we call "dirtbag" ..being a good person. Live your life with honor and being humble is a key. Don't ask for recognition and if it's given...accept it graciously and do your job. You volunteered for this duty..don't expect special compensation for doing your job. I hate people like the one described above OP and I apologize for your encounter. Understand we are all not like this.

Im far too busy with people and tables cocktailing the bar to worry about a discount or take much time other than order taking and table maintenance especially when the meals not even over. After all, it gets hectic and busy fast. Most people come and seat themselfs in the area im working at and am more worried about staying on top of my duties. Doesnt justify the dudes actions. anonymous 6 must be one of the people crying for discounts too

I used to work in the food industry too. I HATE the lack of respect that most customers give their servers...Its like... "You there give me my food, your beneath me and here to serve" I guess they just have no idea the amount of skill it actually takes to serve these people right...and the level of stress involved in this industry. Also when I worked in the food industry, It was Police Officers and AAA members who demanded their discounts the most, I found that actually kind of amusing.

I like the entertainment business. Serving isn't bad if you can find a high quality fancy place. It's actually pretty cool and fun, but the smaller pieces is what really sucks. Too many cheap asses looking for a cheap meal and not so good tips. Have to make up in volume in those places if you can. Kinda wanna get away from it thou

Anon #6 calling the OP a douchebag is ironic because he's the only douchebag I see. Seems to have reading comprehension issues also.
Quote:

That isn't what OP wrote. He wrote they do not give military discounts, but the manager will give him a discount anyway. Probably so the guy would shut the fuck up.

I rarely ask for a discount. Most places I go usually have a sign posted or it's common knowledge. The only time I try to get a discount is when spending a couple hundred or more and then I will ask. Don't cry if I don't get it. Can shop elsewhere if not happy about it. I still find it strange that some places give discounts for active duty only but vets get none. That is bothersome to me but once again, no crying. I think another poster had it right. If you are so concerned ask before you buy or sit down to eat or whatever. No one forced me to join. I don't feel like I am entitled to a discount. Just like I am not entitled to a handicap spot just because I have the tags.

I shouldn't have to explain myself, but a few days prior a military discount was asked by someone else and so I already knew that wasn't something we offered. I talked to the manager after taking their orders and after explaining the situation, the manager said he would discount regardless. Has nothing to do with being 'snobby'. It had all to do with convince and work. The guy wasn't patient enough to just wait and see the situation thru and jumped to conclusions and acted hurt inside when nobody was trying to be disrespectful. Also, I'm a server not a bartender. I don't pour liquor or make drinks. I take orders and run food and drinks etc. If the guy was patient he would've been taken care of like every other costumer. He just went too far over something that wasn't that big of a deal.

Generalizations are harmful and perpetuate segregation of our community's. Every group has its losers and winners. This guy was obviously a loser. Military service isnt and shouldnt be used as a pass to be an ass. Being in the service means he should hold himself to a professional standard. He obviously fell below that standard. But dont let one apple spoil the bunch. Next time call him out. Ask him if his first line superior would be pleased to get a phone call from your place. Fact is military folks can actually be punished for acting out in real life. I.E soldier gets a civilian dui soldier is forced to pay civilian fines and gets an article 15 with loss of pay and hard labor for 30 days, after he gets out of civy jail. Remember to vote!

yeah. i currently manage a team that provides online website assistance for about a thousand car dealerships. it's a 24/7 operation and we get people signing in from deployment pretty regularly. i've never served, but i've participated in a PCS move (i think that's what they're called - it was with the navy) when i was married for my ex wife's career (she was NCIS). just having any little piece of home meant so much while i was overseas. i would imagine what being in a war zone would amplify that exponentially.
i don't deal with customers much these days, but whenever i get someone who claims to be over there, i try to not treat them differently and i get the impression that it's deeply appreciated. they're making plans for when they're done with their tour, specifically to buy a new ride when they get home; they don't need me throwing that jingoist rah-rah bullshit their way.
we also get ex military who throw it around, out looking to suck everyone dry they can due to their former service. those are few and far between, but it seems despicable to me. it's not that i mind that people get the hookup for serving, but acting like everyone owes you for it is insulting. the armed services are a volunteer force last i checked.

This. I could never understand why they act like we owe them something. They are no longer "fighting for our freedom" that was established a long time ago. But yet I always hear younger vets saying things like "oh I fought for your right to (insert whatever here)". And most people I know who joined simply joined cause they couldn't hack school or they were failing in life. Then they come back and act like we all owe them the world

arguably, the military hasn't been fighting for our freedom since the days of the continental army, and that was mostly german and french soldiers rather than the rage militaire, the undisciplined colonial militiamen and citizen-soldiers who originally constituted most of the army's ranks prior to the british capture of new york. the incorporation of professional soldiers into the continental army marked the start of the division between the military and the public, which is exactly what we are seeing play out with op's story. colonials were pretty shitty to the continental army in case you were wondering.
and i would give service members much more credit than you do. in my experience, while the services certainly do attract the bottom of the barrel type that you're describing, they also attract some our best and brightest. i have known some exemplary service members. putting aside the truism that our standing forces fight for elite business interests, i still think they deserve our respect, if not our empathy. it deeply saddens me to see anyone go to war, even if they signed up for it. and when i'm able to connect with someone over there through my job, even if it's just briefly, i try to remind them that they have a home waiting for them.

Its not that I don't give them credit, cause there are some that are bright like you say and live up to the standards in their everyday life. How ever where I live you hardly see it. Most the times they are making an ass out of themselves and trying to impress everyone while doing it. And unfortunately those incidents stand out more than the ones who are treating it as an actual career or stepping stone to the next better thing.

I will also say this...The Media doesnt help...even your average by-stander with a camera, or phone...No one ever wants to report good deeds, like who cares about that service member jumping in front of a moving car to push a pregnant woman out of the way, and in the process becomes paralyzed...However if he was drunk, and just watched it happen, the media would be all over it with the title "Drunk service member watches as pregnant woman is hit by moving vehicle" which do you think would receive more hits? which would get public attention more? which would cause individual attention more?

You're a military fag guaranteed. Can sense that absurd entitlement complex just through what you wrote. I don't judge them all based on this one guy, but it's not like this is at all uncommon. Some people do join for the right reasons, IME though, a very large portion, if not the majority of people join because they have nothing else to do with their lives other than dead end retail and such. They've got criminal records and no real education or training for anything. They're in their 20's and are quickly figuring out how fucked they are. So they join up. A lot of them have an entitlement attitude and whenever you try to call them on their shit, they revert to the old "I fought for your freedom" bullshit. Well thanks, but I didn't ask you to. If I just showed up at your house and mowed your lawn and washed your car without you ever having even seen me before that point, and started demanding respect and money, how do you think I would be greeted?
You made the choice to do what you did, no one asked you to. So you don't get to come around demanding shit just because you did it. I think it's noble to join up and do what you view as protecting others, but that nobility ends the second you think you're entitled to special treatment. If it's a bonus you didn't ask for, cool. When you start acting like a douche over it, then I've got a problem.
I've known a lot of military people in my life, some old, most Afghanistan/Iraq era. The vast majority all have this superiority complex. Are those people all proof that this is what makes up the majority of the military? No. But when they're completely unrelated sample sets (not all closely related through friendship or blood or something) and a very clear pattern emerges, it lends credibility to the notion that this is a severe and common issue.

I'm not judging by age or deployment. That was just to give an idea of the types I've known. Some of my own family was in WWII, and more in Nam. Age really doesn't seem to change a lot. Some age does temper that attitude some, but it doesn't go very far. People of that mindset, generally stay in that mindset. In fact the old people are the ones more likely to start chanting about how they fought for your freedom when you piss them off. As if we're all supposed to bow down at their feet.
