I have 2 powerful radio transceivers, what can i do with them?
    #22098701 - 08/16/15 12:48 PM (8 years, 5 months ago)

There expensive ones, 75 Watt each, plus 2 power supplies and 2 antennas...

I tried briefly using it with my friend but we both have iphones - SMS, facetime,  Skype so really theres not much use for the radios.

20 - 25 years i would cream myself if i had such radios but now they are lying in my flat without any use.

What can i do? what can i do??

Depending on brand and tx/rx frequencies... maybe someone would buy them from you.

I might be interested in purchasing them, I'm a licensed amateur radio operator.

Whats the make/model? My current Kenwood puts out 150W max across the HF amateur bands (US, region 2), but it was bought used and was obviously used and abused in its day, it's pretty noisy. I've been looking for an affordable upgrade for a while now.

I can also help suggest uses if I know more about the make and models, if you aren't interested in a sale/trade. :pipesmoke:

You do realise shipping cost to US from Uk gonna cost something like 40 quid/bucks.

The transceiver i got is Yaesu FT 2900E

Good stuff

Especially considering that most ham base stations run at kk r near 12VDC. It would be pretty easy to rig up a solar cell to battery bank, that could be used for periodic communication.

I'm hoping to step up into the 200-500W power range in the HF frequencies. I typically don't hang out in VHF because it usually doesn't propogate very far and can get crowded in my area (because it's easy to set up and allows for high-bandwidth digital transmission.)

Eventually, I'd like to find a few local microwave enthusiasts and try to get my feet wet with microwave circuit design and radio astronomy...but that's probably at least another year down the road.

The rigs you have will be great for emergency contact. If you'd like to transmit on any of the HF bands in a non-apocalyptic time, I'd highly recommend that you go get your amateur operators license.
